Cutting Stock Springs
I want to lower my 2000 Coupe and i was told by a friend who cut his springs this would be a cheap and decent way to go. has anyone else cut there springs and how has it come out. Also what would be the best way to cut them, blade, or torch. THanks for any help.

please dont cut your springs..itll be the worse ride of your life. u might aswell go offroading while ur at it.
|
you do realize this will give your car a HORRIBLE ride.. and you probably won't even cut it the 'proper'.. even though imo they is no proper way to do it cause it's just stupid.
Buying used lowering springs is pretty cheap.. some can be had for around 100$ |
I got brand new H&Rs for $75.. so just look around it's not hard.
|
It's illegal too I think. Like everyone said. Springs are cheap, it doesn't cost much to lower your ride properly.
|
like everyone already said, its by far the stupidest thing you can do. even stupider would be to cut it using a torch, heating metal to the point of melting it away changes it's chemical properties, causing the crystals in the steel to realign and harden. this will cause fatigue failure over time... springs are meant to be elastic and 'springy', not hardened with heat. it's just a bad idea overall, but if you go and do it anyways, at least don't use a torch.
also, don't be friends with your buddy anymore... either he is stupid or wishes bad things to happen to you. either way, not a good friend. |
Take up a new hobby like stamps or coins if you can't mod a car properly. They also happen to be less dangerous in the event that you do cheapen out.

ugh cut springs.... don t do it. after two weeks youll be in the market for some new ones. do it right or don t do it at all.
