Custom 2-Way downpipe installed!!!!

Posted for a friend

"I recently got a "mild" turbo kit installed. On my B18B and my restrictive exhaust (almost stock w/ ITR muffler) my turbo was only giving me 2-4psi.

I recently submitted my car to be the test guinea pig for the modification in the pictures below and was quite pleased with the results.

The reason I did this modification is because 1) I daily drive it so I wanted it to be quiet so that the law enforcement officials didn't hear me from a kilometer a way. And 2) this is the family car (4dr Integra) so it has to be somewhat civilized. I've had different exhausts in the past and they were just ear-catchers or unnecessary attention getters.

Now with this new modification you can still have a quiet car for daily driving and for the track (through the control of an electronic switch mounted inside the car) have an open header design which will maximize all the mods on your car with a free flowing type of exhaust.

It is still in the R&D stage, so placement of this electronic valve is still pending. I have driven it for the past 3 days and am very satisfied."

You can PM me back for further details.

Beautiful!

Thats awesome. I've been wondering about those... my exhaust shop told me that dumps were popular for a while in the muscle car days... but that they ALWAYS LEAKED enough to annoy and rust out in no time... that discouraged me from trying what you have done.

I hope you find a new solution and I look forward to your progress

Yup - just a dump...been around for a while but that design looks pretty good.

Now take it to a dyno and lets see how well it actually works.

Some dumps and valves...

Linking this to a cable, or, to a solenoid would be cool, but I worry about how well it seals after a few months here in canada!

Lookup "CAST-IRON EXHAUST CUTOUT " on www.jcwhitney.com and check it out

Its Cast-iron Exhaust Cut-out
Each
24ZX1628R
$ 22.95 US

Also, from "my favourites"

Thanks for the comments.

The dump tube (Cast IRON) pictured above by Johnny23toronto looks like a manual type tube. The second one is similar to the one we are using (2.5" diameter valve)

The one my friend has installed is electronically controlled from the inside with a switch that can modulate how open or how closed you want it to be. So it can be fully open, fully closed or open partially depending on what the driver has it set to.

Keep the comments coming.

I do realize that this sort of idea has been around for a long time (especially in powerboats from what I've read) but as far as street import applications I have not seen it done. Not to say that it hasn't been done or thought of. Just thought I would share it with you all.

I would think that this would be illegal.......the "make it open with a switch" part.

Now......if you had to actualy get under the car and do it manualy, then it would be ok........as long as it was closed while driving on the street.

I'm I wrong?

That second pic is the quicktime cutout.
I'll have one going on my 240 this summer.

You have to be carefull when boosting with cutouts. If the wastegate isn't on par, it can give you a really ugly overboost condition. It's always a good idea to run an electronic boost controller for safety.

Good advice to people planning on using this device.

I only have a 6lb spring in my WG and have tested to see if the boost spikes or creeps past that with it open. So far it has held steady at 6psi.

Electronic boost controller coming soon (Greddy E-01)

What type of metal and welding is that?

Hey NowBoosting, what type of metal and welding is that? Did you use an arc welder? Or gas?

Thanks

I don't think the cops would like any part of it period.

But it wooul be cool driving it full open on a secluded road up to the cottage or something.

Man it must sound like a stock car!

I think the best solution is to get a rusted out civic (ultimate sleeper) and get one with the exhaust rusted out right after the header and the rest of the rusted out muffle hangin there too.

Instead of getting charged for modding the car and street racing, you'll get warned for neglect. Plus you woun't have to pay as much for the rust mod.
