crossing over into the darkside

some people think i'm crazy, but i'm boosting my b16. People boost their JDM ITRs with good results and they've got 11.5:1 CR. My b16 made 167.7whp all motor (with no cam gear adjustments) and i'm aiming for 280-300whp on moderate boost.

The setup is:
Precision GT3255E with T04E compressor housing and .63 A/R turbine
Turbosmart 38mm external wastegate
some crappy looking tubular manifold (at least its not cast...lol)
3" downpipe
2.25" charge pipes with HKS BOV
25" x 6.5" x 3.5" Precision FMIC
580cc injectors
255lph fuel pump (in-tank)
Apex-i AVCR electronic boost controller
Tuning with cromepro and install done by me.
Aaron of Weir Technologies will be making me a turbo to FMIC charge pipe and making my downpipe fit my exhaust.

Here are some pics.

Here's that crappy manifold i was talking about, made by the guys at splitfire performance (i got this kit from my buddy). You can also see the nice new turbosmart wastegate.

I'll post up the dyno sheet once everythings running and i get a chance to dyno tune it.

Questions, comments and criticism is all welcome.

at least paint the manifold! that thing looks like it came out of a model t or something :haha:. good luck with the build. i'm sure you'll get good results.

imported_meSIR 01-May-2007 04:24 AM

sandblast that manifold! But very exciting, post progress pics!

I'd wrap the mani in heat shield wrap for both looks and performance reasons. Should be a killer set up when completed.

Double_B 01-May-2007 02:44 PM

When are you gonna boost mine?

brianmcgaugh 01-May-2007 03:07 PM

should make 300 no problem with that setup.
Let me know if you want someone in the left seat when tuning :D

zeeman 01-May-2007 03:41 PM

well, i might be delaying the install for a bit (i've got some tunes i need to get done)....in which case i might get the manifold coated with a nice heat coating....none of that high temp paint crap.

I don't know about the heat wrap though, i'm not really a fan of it.

I've got a few people that have offered to drive my car while i tune....but i know you (brian) have experience with boosted cars....so i might just take you up on that offer. Or man up and do it all by myself.

Ya, i can't wait to see how quick she spools with all of the headwork i've got done and the 11.3:1 CR. I'll probably have to mess with the cam gears a bunch to dial out any extra overlap.
I'll post up more pictures of the progress as i get er done.

Sounds like what you really need is a portable dyno...

I'll drive.. U2N ??

zeeman 01-May-2007 04:15 PM

if you didn't have a mileage fee out of the GTA and a minimum of 3 hours, i'd probably have already used you guys.

Anyone know of a good place (local) that does high temp coating?

I thought u wanted to be driving your car by now?

I'm very busy with stuff, and keep getting busier, hopefully i'll have some time to get this kit installed and running by the end of the weekend.

Sounds like a solid project, you may need to upgrade from the del sol seats though to something with more hold:nods: I may know a buyer:naughty:

zeeman 01-May-2007 08:54 PM

i could actually have a set of my buddys recaros, but they aren't reclineable (yuck)....the del sols will be fine, nice try though....lol
