cross drilled or slotted rotors?

im goin to get new brake pads up front and i decided to get some brembo rotors at the same time.

i f i can get cross-drilled/slotted rotors i will....

BUT....

if i can only get slotted or cross drilled but not both which ones should i get?

just slotted?

or

just cross drilled?

if anything get drilled, slotted rotors eat pads, and you will never get to even see the benifit of them. Drilled are prone to warpage, so make sure to use the right pad combination. Allot of guys will say not to use drilled rotors, but ive had mine for 40,000km and they have not warped even under hard brakeing. Just dont park the car after a series of hard stops, and make sure to torque the wheel nuts precicely otherwise you may warp them.

The drilled rotors release gas buildup between the pad and rotor surface, and allow for better cooling to prevent boiled brake fluid, which might benifit you since your in a hot climate area. I also find the inital bite harder then a blank rotor (only when warmed up tho) i find they dont bite hard during the first few stops...

It comes down to a matter of opinion, you will probably get a few different responses... My opinion is i would buy another set of drilled, im pleased with them. Im running KVR drilled with KVR carbon metalic / kelar lined pads with stock lines, and im yet to boil them... My rotors are also coated to provide rust protection, 2 winters and the hats are still silver :D total cost was same as OEM replacement parts

i just want to throw in a question here (since i don't want to start another thread of a related issue...

so... as long as its drilled rotors, its good, right? what about cross-drilled? or am i talking about the same thing right here?
same or different (drilled and cross-drilled)?

also... how much are your kvr rotors and pads? those KVR pads are not ceramics right? i heard ceramics pads kills the rotors faster than regular pads... not too sure, i need more knowledges..

and what do you use to coat the rotors? i can buy them at CT?

PM me or just reply here...(anyone who can answer me) thanks!

meh brembo blacks don't bother with drilled or slotted...jsut get soem brembo blanks and some decent pads hawk hps for street and some good brake fluid..and maybe some stainless lines if you want...that will be fine..drilling the rotor's just takes away surface area adn they don't create stopping power the pad material does. Save your money and get brembo blanks

Rockin_Festiva 05-Jun-2004 02:08 PM

unles ur track racing it most modern day pads do not produce the same gasses as in the past, id personally just go with some blanks that way u dont have to worry about pad chewage, cracks, warpage

punkindrublic 05-Jun-2004 03:13 PM

ya pretty much if it isn't a track car just get brembo blanks... if you want something that looks cool just get them slotted

spracingsports 05-Jun-2004 05:14 PM

ok thanx guys... i kinda want to get the look, but if they are rough on pads ill just get brembo blanks like dingus said...

what are some good quality SS lines that dont cost an arm and a leg.... i know willwood, goodridge, etc. but thay are expensive

punkindrublic 05-Jun-2004 05:18 PM

if your car isn't a race car you dont really need them... but i dont think any of them are cheap :shrugs: my buddy put in the goodridge lines on his 4th gen...

if you want looks why not get a big brake kit for the fronts?

spracingsports 05-Jun-2004 09:51 PM

cuz that is WAY out of my price range Rick.

im just gonna get the rotors cuz i can get em for like 30 bux a piece

if i get them say... an inch bigger than stock.... do i have to change anything?

cross drilled rotors wont eat your pads, christ, take it from experience (I.E. me whos bee useing them on my car with 75% pad life on 40,000km) or somone who is relaying misinfo from another web board and have never even had a set in thier hands..

slotted are designed to eat pads (they keep a fresh clean surface on the pads) which are used in a raceing enviroment, where longtivity isnt a factor cuz they replace pads every race.

and KVR drilled will cost u about the same as brembo blanks

look at any bike and tell me what the rotors look like

and for stainless lines, no you dont need them, you will never "need them" but untill you drive a car with SS lins you dont know what your missing, the pedle becomes nice and firm, evey bit of mushyness is gone. Just like a short shifter, do you need it no, but its nice, adds to driving sensation and enjoyment.. Its like banging a virgin puss, no one says you need virgin puss (maybe your a couger kinda guy), but it sure as hell feels good when you press on a tight one ...

Hey Jason, who do I contact for these Brembo Blanks for my new GSR Brakes, I think they may be cheaper than my price on stock ones...

i agree... the disks on the go karts i race are all cross drilled

imported_PRoCiVic 07-Jun-2004 11:27 PM

crossed drilled man its way better saves you money on new pads ever month. lol

lude22 09-Jun-2004 08:05 AM

boosty, bikes also weigh a fraction of what a car does, so the braking process generates a fraction of the heat. cross drilled OR slotted are NOT for a street car. both suck. I've had both, so I can speak in it with authority. one eats pads, the other warps and cracks.

OEM blanks with Hawk pads for a street car, or OEM pads for longevity.

spracingsports 09-Jun-2004 03:11 PM

bruno... do you think the brembo blanks are better performance than oem blanks? whick will last longer?

imported_t_dot_SiR 09-Jun-2004 04:47 PM

just get brembo blanks... and some decent pads... it'll work out just fine....

KVR is good... but its more expensive than brembo blanks...
they are about 120 EACH!!! and +10 for plated (prevent rusting)... that's 480 for all around... i know somewhere that sells brembo blanks wayyyy cheaper than the KVR x-drilled...

please don't ask me where this place is... just go do some pricing... i don't want to be unfair to the affiliates because they are nice people too....

just goto stores and compare pricing.... see if they can do price-matching.....

you just test out types of rotors and pads to find the best combination that suits your driving style... we all drives differently, so it probably makes some difference in the longetivity of pads... some people would even try to accelerate hard to just roll up the car and then brake hard.... get what i mean? so those people probably makes a pad last shorter...

KVR(plated)+carbon pads are nice...
but brembo blanks + decent pads will do as nice too

OEM pads or rotors... they don't make much price difference if you think getting from dealership is good pricing

keep looking and good luck
