creeking from left wheel

Hey guys, yesterday i noticed that when I turn my steering wheel, there is a creeking coming from the left wheel area, sounds like the its coming front the balljoint. It sounds like metal on metal. Its a 00 siR, dropped 2" for about years. Any insight?

check the CV boots to see if they are ripped and if grease is leaking out. Does the car vibrate at all at highway speeds?

imported_meSIR 05-Apr-2005 11:39 PM

ya, i checked the boot on that side when i changed my oil the other day, seemed fine, but i'll check again
it does shake a bit,my alignment is off, so I was blaming that

balljoint or tie rod end

There's a simple trick to stop it temporarily.

Poke a small hole in the axle's boot and stick the straw that comes with a can of WD-40 in there. Spray around somewhat. And make sure you do that on a day where it's at least 10 C.

thats a horrible thing to do, thats like a dirty mechanics trick to make a quick buck(customer hears no squeek, therfore thinks problem is solved, a month later the balljoint blows and causes 1000$ damage, returning to the garage to have the workl done)

... WD40 will dilute the grease, and then evaporate, drieing up the joint resulting in the joint buring out even faster.:tsk:

just replace the damn thiing, is your life not worth more than 75 bux? never **** with balljoints:crazy:

imported_t_dot_SiR 07-Apr-2005 02:59 AM

either balljoints or cvboot..
i had similar on my passenger side front wheel... got the cvboot and driveshaft both replaced...

yay the same problem happened to me i know its not the cv boot i already checked that how can i tell if its the upper joint or the lower one is there any way i can see which one it is dont really feel like replacing both.

Gunmetalef 08-Apr-2005 12:23 AM

my moms car makes a weird noise on turns .. i thought it was the cv shaft.. but my dad said its the spring moving a bit cuz the cap on the shock isn't holding it in properly.. i looked at it and the boot is fine.. and the cap is broken somewhat ( still ok to drive) but its been lowered for a while too i replaced the front shocks as well.. i don't know.. suspension is rock solid on it.. balljoints and all.. its a 1999 toyota solara meh

Why vasaline :shrugs: why not use the proper greese specifyed for balljoints. If your going to the store to get vasaline, might as well get the proper ****.

Some of the advice on here is gonna get somone killed.

imported_meSIR 08-Apr-2005 02:26 PM

i got under the car yesterday, checked the CV boot
theres no tear in it, sometimes the creeking goes away
i think i'll hold off on the vaseline :p and take it to the mechanic tomorrow

imported_italstallion 08-Apr-2005 05:15 PM

so is there a way u guys use to check if its the upper ball joint or lower?

imported_BoOsTd 08-Apr-2005 10:57 PM

lift the car up support it on stands, get a prybar in there and move the suspension, listen to where the squeek is coming from.
