crankshaft timing mark
Hi Ed here:
Question Setting valve clearance on 90 si 1.6 as per Honda manual. Everything lines up as per the manual except the TDC mark on crank. It's out by about 1/8 of an inch. Relatively new timing belt. Do i go ahead and set the clearances? |
no! you have to be absolutely positive you are at TDC...
and the crank has a keyway, so it CAN'T be off. If you have a timing sprocket, that could explain it... or you're looking at the wrong angle?? I dunno, but be sure you have TDC... if need be, check for TDC using a feeler gauge, so where it's loosest, that valve is closed fully and you can adjust it. |
Hi Ed here: thanks for the tips.
I was looking at the wrong angle all is well . I set it up no problems. Once again thanks. |
One thing you have to remember is too look at the motor on an angle if thats the way it sits, first time I ever did timing on a motor it was a mitsu 2.0L and forever i couldn't get the damn thing to line up.....till i tilted my head a bit and looked at it the way it sits properly in the vehilce.
