A ractive and AEM CAI would do pretty much the samething for your motor. So go with whichever one is cheaper, personally i'd by a second hand pipe and buy a new k/n filter. |
^^ what he said.
Plus you can get CAI's on ebay, brand new for next to nothing. They are a dime a dozen these days. |
ractive FTW!!!

does anyone know where i can get a custom CAI made? i dont feel like paying the $250 for an hybrid AEM intake, i just want a cold air to fit my setup, im a fan of the budget pipe with k&n filter.

I bought a ractive short ram for my 2000 sir for $70. I'm looking to add a section of pipe to it to make it a cold air intake.
But i want mine to come out right in the front opening of the front bumper. So you'd see the cone filter in the opening off to one side. No just sitting in behind the bumper, behind the fog light. |
i'd figure more than 2-5 for a cai. i've seen dyno comparisons that showed up to 18hp on an rsx.

I dyno'd 140whp at forrest & forrest racing in kitchener last weekend. Thats stock with short ram intake and axle-back exhaust. If you buy an intake, buy it for the sound and fuel mileage (which I have noticed a difference in). |
there is more power to be made on a k20 then a d17. I put a cai on my car and felt no difference at all.
edit: just curious.. what kind of difference did u notice in mileage? |
For peopel looking to custom make intakes, Vibrant performance in mississauga makes all kinds of bends, connectors, elbows, reducers for intakes.

Originally posted by 7andrew7 i'm wondering the same thing:confused: I bought the intake mainly for the sound! There's nothing like blasting past someone with their window down and hitting that magical 5600rpm when you finally wake up the VTEC monster under your hood....heehee:thumbup: |
If your getting an intake id suggest AEM all their products are dyno proven, their a great design. i got 5hp on the dyno gain from a aem cold air on my setup. down side their about 200-250.

$250 for a 5 hp gain that only comes near redline is a bad financial decision imo. chris is right...go with an inexpensive setup as it will yield more or less the same results

Sorry but I gotta ask, a CAI made for a 00 SIR(B16) would work on a 00 SI(D16) would it not?
|
if your going with cai, make sure to get a bypass valve. 98% of motors dont like water...lol

When i bought it, it did not specify if it was for a d16 or b16....since some of the pre-made fittings on the intake didn't line up with anything and are not used on my b16, i can only assume they are for the d16. So yes and no. Some may fit, some may not. Hope that helps. |
