how much does this usually cost?? and does it really make a difference. is it mainly done on turbo applications? or does it benefit all?

anywhere from $50-$100, and usually NOT. somewhat. not in most cases.

only way to benefit is to have the engine TUNED!

turbo app's do this in order to expand their maps into positive pressure, and to tune for bigger injectors.

a mostly stock engine will prolly see no increase in power.

most 'chips' just dump more fuel and advance timing in hopes of making more power. this is pure crap!

well i dont really mean chipped bruno (i also might be misunderstanding you) but i mean more like a complete/full ECU resetting to defaults, which i heard was like unhooking your battery, but more in depth...

in SCC they drove a WRX across 2 states and then flashed the ECU after they arrived, i guess so that erases its memory back to total defaults i dont really understand what it does and all.... so i guess ill just pass it

I did that little unhooking the battery trick when i put my intake on. It was idling a little differently because of the increased air flow or whatever. So i guess by doing the battery trick the computer just starts off fresh and figures everything out from scratch rather than making adjustments....not sure though.

thats what i believe it does, but getting it flashed is like going a step further....

i guess its kinda like this analogy :

battery trick: reintalling OS on a computer
pro flash: completely overwriting HDD with 0's (disc nuke) then installing OS.

if youknow computers you know what im talking about
