Compression & Leakdown Test

I need to do a compression & leakdown test on my car. Can anyone recommend a good place that does this in mississauga? And how much does this usually cost?
Thanks.

do it yourself, very simple and you will learn something....buy the compression tester then u will have it and be able to do one whenever you want, probley the same price as paying someone too...goto princess auto there cheap 20-30 bux i think

Whats involved in doing this test? And what are the results im looking for? Also what about the leakdown part? I have no clue what that involves.
Where is princess auto? And is it 20-30 bucks for the kit? Or for the test?
Thanks.

i got my compression tester from crappy tire for $30.
To do a compression test you:
remove the ecu fuse in the underhood fuse box
remove all 4 spark plug wires and 4 spark plugs
screw the compression tester tube into where the spark plug goes
crank the car over 5 or 6 times
check the guage to see what it says and take note to compare with the other cylinders
repeat process for 3 remaining cylinders
The results should be within +/- 20psi of the others. If the numbers are low or inconsistant make sure to have the engine checked out.

A leakdown test is where you put compressed air (about 100psi) into the cylinder with all of the valves closed to measure how much leaks out.

I would imagine that any competant shop would be able to perform a leakdown test for you. In order to do a leakdown test you would need an air compressor with a regulator and a leakdown tester (which aren't as cheap as the compression testers are)

Sweet. It doesn't sound too hard to do. Thanks for the info.
One other thing though, when doing the compression test, what psi am i looking for on a d16y8?

I just have some stuff to add to crvtecEG post.

There's a dry and wet test.

When I do a compression test I remove the fuse for the fuel pump, and have the throttle plate wide open.

If you noticed one or more cylinders that the compression is low squirt a little oil into each cylinder and repeat the test. If the cylinders with the low compression increase a lot then there is a problem.

A leakdown test will verify the problem of the compression test.

A simple head gasket check is start the engine up (idle) for about 5 - 10 minutes with the rad cap off. Watch for bubbles in your coolant.

Anyone konw what the compression should be at for a b16a2?

imported_starboy869 06-Aug-2005 10:57 AM

I would think around 125psi. :shrugs:
