compression

What is the highest compression you can bump your engine to and still run pump gas safely?

94 octane tuned properly.... you could prolly run mid to high 12s... but I imagine you'd wanna be running some forged pistons and better rods.

Steve_Leitner would know more about that. It really doesn't matter though, if you gotta ask the question, then you should really pay someone to build the engine for you, and you should let them worry about what comp ratio to run.

i was running 13.04:1 in my engine on 94 and i had no detonation problems at all BUT it take alot of work in the head to eliminate detonation and you need to know what you are doing.

holy ***** 13:1 on 94?!?!?!! With that high of a CR tuning would be really important too.
What were you using for engine management Steve? And how much was the ignition timing retarded?

Yeah, combustion chamber design is super important when you're running really high cylinder pressures. If you get lean spots in your combustion chamber (cc) you'll blow a hole in your piston pretty quickly. I'm sure Steve did a lotta welding on the head to add material where needed, then reshaped the cc with his diegrinder.

i didnt retard the timing at all and it was a chipped pr3. 220hp and 159lb/ft torque @ the wheels on a pr3! i had exhaust temp gauges on each cylinder, oil pressure, oil temp, vacumn, fuel presure, water temp, and a knock alert from msd. you learn alot with all the gauges.

Thanks guys.. just getting a little more info for my research before I do anything.. and yes, if I ever get the cash I will have someone build it.. but I like to know for myself whats going on.. don't wanna have someone build it and be completely clueless about it all..
