COLD AIR INTAKE Vs. RAM AIR INTAKE
trying to decide which i better to intall on my car, cold air intake or ram air intake...opinions anyone???

do ram air. i sucked up too much water with a cold air....and it doesn't even add much hp anyways so why bother with a chance of hydrolocking
|
cold air
its just... cooler |
Well a ram air intake does a good job of sucking hot air from the engine compartment, so given the option a cold air intake is preferable for performance. It attempts to draw cooler air from outside the bay, hence the name "cold air". However if it's a daily driver you have to be weary of water and dirt getting up into the filter.

if u setup ur ram air it wont suck engine heat. cold air pipes are longer and absorb alot of engine heat. and the cold air has to travel thru that. so think about it. wit cold air the air's gonna get hot by the time it reaches ur TB. short ram has less pipng so by the time it reaches the TB its still cold. just block off the filter part from the engine compartment. simple solution

air is comming between the lights and round it if u block off the section where it is exposed to the engine heat u will have a better chance of keeping that air cooler and blocking I mean using metal plates between the suspension tower and ur rad support and make it flush wit the hood so u only get air from outside not engine heat

here we go again saying cai draws cooler air than sri. lets get one thing clear here.
THE ONLY TIME SRI IS SUCKING HOT AIR IN IS WHEN THE CAR IS AT A STAND STILL. once the car gets moving, your engine bay reaches ambient temperature. temperature is not as big of a factor as you may think when it comes to making power from an intake. THE LENGTH AND THE DIAMETER is what determines where the motor will make the most power so stop with all this hot air vs. cold air non sense. please read this thread and sticky it or something because these threads are like the other threads where people are asking which b series is better. :richslap:. http://www.team-integra.net/forum/di...g+Common+Topic |
The only proper CAI setup would be one where:
1: You had a proper SRI setup first, with proper tubing length, a good filter, velocity stack, and a venturi. 2. After that was taken care of you would need an icebox around the filter, with another pipe drawing air from a colder location. 3. Lastly, you would require a method of actually keeping cold air cold. That means shielding the piping and icebox from radiation. This could come in the form of a particular material, or another method. One in particular I have been looking at is the idea of having a vacuum around the piping. In any event, unless you can do the above, stick with a SRI because all other CAI are hype. |
I've had my CAI for 5 years now, and have had no problems.....drive it everyday no matter what the weather.....as long as you have a bypass valve and fender liner all is good........now i have never put a short ram on my car so i can't really compare but honestly either way there is no major power gain involved with installing an intake....so why break your brains on deciding between the two?? just get whatever you like, or whatever's cheaper.......
