Cold Air Intake Ordeal!!
 

I just got a cold air intake put everything in place and found a few problems. I dont think the intake is getting enough air where it is because its basiclly boxed in between the bumper and the splash guard. However my stock bumper does have holes on either sides. So what I did was remove the black cover I had inside the hole. So now its left open, everything would be fine if the whole was wide open and nothing is in the way. But taking up most of the area is the frame of the car. So there is about 1.5 inchs of free space that air can get to the filter.


What do you do in this situation? I was thinking of getting a new bumper that has those openings on either side. So i could use that to get the air to the filter?

if you remove the splash guard you will be sucking in a lot of dirt on to your filter and you will have to replace it or wash it very often. also on really rainy days your chances of hydro locking your motor is very high if it's left in the open like that. what kind of motor do you have? i doubt you'll feel the difference if you take off the splash guard. you can try getting a after market bumper but for egs i know that theres an air duct you can buy to suck in the air on the right side. im not sure if they make it for the sols.

I never drive my car in the rain tho does that help? I have an H23 in my car

then go for it. the only bad thing is that it'll get dirty fast.

how is it possible that rite where the hole is the frame of the car is? Is there anything else I can do?

why not just run flexible heating duct to the filter? alot of people do it so i'm guessing it offers alittle more advantage than just cold air. Remember that removing the plastic is going to expose that filter to everything.
i honestly think you should just let it be, your engine can only suck in so muchthrew a filter , and being a cold air it doesnt expose it self to the top of the engine bay where hot air would be

Do not remove the inner fender.

Besides the olbvious of preventing water getting sucked in by your filter and keeping it clean it will prevent damage to your car.

When you remove the plastic your tires will throw dirt, stones, salt and all of the elements behind your fender and onto the body. It will chip away at the paint have the bare metal exposed and next thing you know the structure of you car will be weakend and the body is falling apart.

Rust is not worth the half of a horsepower gain.
