Cold Air Intake!!!!

Alrite this may or may not be a stupid question... LOL

When buying a Cold Air Intake what are you buying for the car or the motor?

I want to know if I buy a Cold Air Intake for my 96 Del Sol or do I buy the Cold Air Intake for an H23A?

Type_R Del Sol 16-Aug-2005 01:55 AM

I know it's a stupid question but I really don't know the answer

for del sol because your buying it for the fitment of the engine bay. the engine bay is different from a prelude to a civic. partly for the diameter of the IM too but i know that's not as important as fitment to where the tube goes down and near the ground. i hope that helps.

you have to take both into consideration because of the throttle body position aswell.

D.I.Y. CAI is your best bet. Vibrant sells 3" polished aluminum piping. str8 piping, 90 & 45 degree bends and the silincone couplers to attach the pieces. seeing that its a hybrid, this is your only real reliable option.

zeeman 17-Aug-2005 12:41 PM

just make sure the internal diameter of the piping is larger than the size of the t/b.....60mm

SteveZ 17-Aug-2005 02:17 PM

the internal size of the piping would be smaller, the outer diameter would be the same size as the tb. mind you you can do either, but this would be the best bet and finding a coupler would be easier. stick with a 3" inch pipe, no larger and no smaller.

zeeman 17-Aug-2005 02:40 PM

but wouldn't a....lets say 55mm ID pipe be restrictive to a 60+mm throttle body?....since the ID of the t/b is 60mm.
Anyone care to elaborate on this....there are lots of smart people on here.

SteveZ 18-Aug-2005 04:06 AM

well look at it this way, the ID of a intake tube with the same OD of the throttle body will still be bigger the the opening of the tb because of the width of the pipe and the tb. the tb side walls are thicker then the small walls of the pipe, so no it wouldnt be restrictive. plus, even if the pipe were smaller, you wouldnt notice that much of a different. what you want to do is make an intake with as little bends as possible and no bigger then 3" or else you lose air velocity. your best bet, even tho im sure MANY people here will disagree, is to make a wai that fits into the side. less bends and less travel = more performance.
