Coilovers in winter?
I'm getting new suspension and was just wondering how does it hold up in our amazing canadian winters?
Would it be worth it to buy coilovers and install them right now? I already got my car rustproofed a month ago, do the coilovers need to be rustproofed as well? Or should I just wash them during the winter? Also I'd be lowering my car until the snow and then raising it back up when the white stuff starts coming down... any comments would be appreciated.. thanks, |
why lower it now when snow will fly in 2-4 weeks, i'd hold out until winter is over. from what i've read on this, the threads of the coil-overs do not like salt. to lower it now you'd also need an alignment i'd just wait till late feb as most people are putting their winter tires on and stock suspension back on.

i'd just wait till the snow melts, then get it aligned.

There is no point install it now. But for me, I am just too lazy to take them out. I am just gonna drive the car like this for this winter and do what I have been doing all these time - frequent wash and rinse.

get some oil based spray applied to them if you are really worried

:dito: thats what i am doing with my struts and springs

true, I think I'm just gonna wait and go 5 lug instead with the cash...

Cover everything in vaseline.

For me I have nothing to replace them with so they can't come out.. anyone want to lend me a beater....?
I'm going to use tons of WD-40 this year and really thick sticky oil to keep the water and salt out |

Originally posted by Joker ur nto gonna raise it? I won't worry about rust and whatnot. My 5 year old OEM struts came out like brand new, after daily driving. And mine coilovers are done the same way to OEM spec so quality is good. |
Remember that raising your car back up to stock height will mess with your alignment, so It would be wise to have the front end re-aligned for winter time, also.
|
Plus, my coilovers are set at a good height, like 590mm +/- all around. So I want to keep it like that.
Add a couple more lbs inside the engine bay and it should be even better. |
I have to raise the sihit outta my car pretty soon, it's to the floor right now and I wont be able to get anywhere :notfair:
