coil overs or springs?

I want to lower my car about 2 - 2.5 inches, and don't know whether to buy coils or springs. I heard springs are better, and coilovers have a tend to rattle and such....i don't need a performance racing ride, but would like quality for the $$ so what would be better?

do a search...

but if you want a short answer, do neither, if ride quality is your biggest concern, stay stock.

coilovers usually have a higher spring rate so they tend to be a bit bouncier

springs if you want a slighyly better ride, esp, sport springs

Coilovers I like though that you can adjust the height exaclty to what you like.

beef with lowering springs

my only beef with springs is that you don't have any control over how high or low you want your car.

I know it usually says how much it will drop it, but doesn't vary from model to model, even if you're using the same springs.

i.e a 1.50 drop spring on my 94 lx would probably not lower it that much would it? Where as on a 94 si, it will drop it the full 1.5". This is just something i've heard about numerous times. is there any truth to it?

it depends on the weight of the car and spring rate.

But yeh if you change from 94lx and 94si it should be pretty close not to much diff.

why don't you spend the money on a true coil over setup?
they still give you the option to lift and lower your car but also you won't blow your stock shocks. I have them on my car and i love them. I had springs on stock shocks before and felt the car was really loose at certain speeds, but now that i have these the car is nice and tight and handles very well

go with a spring and shock for a quality ride. What you'll loose in ride height adjustability, you'll gain in ride comfort.

A good spring will have a progressive spring rate, while coilover springs will not. For daily driving the progressive is the way to go. You should also change your shock to match the spring rate of the spring you choose.

But at the drop you are looking at coilovers are the way to go so you can raise you car back up a 1/2" when you realize speedbumps and entrances to parking lots suck.

these answers are so ignorant... coilovers are king because they come as a matched set... perfectly matched springs to perfectly matched dampeners. No off the shelf medley of parts will handle as well as a good set of coilovers (properly set up). Buying mine was the best decision I made for my susp... before them I went through 3 diff't setups looking for the correct feel for my car, and it was at the H&R coilover that the search stopped and I was able to move onto another aspect of the car to mod.

I think there is confusion with the full true coilover suspension like bbarbulo is talking about, and the coilover sleeve/ aftermarket shock combo setup like I have...

true. true coilovers when properly set up are king, but this thread seems to be centered around sleeved springs vs. standard springs.

terrible1, correct us.
