To Coil or not to Coil? Skunk2 on an 95 SI
Hey guys..... I have a question about coils for my car.... Anyone out there with Skunk2's on a 92-95 civic running stock struts?
I'm currently running eibach sports but I want some adjustablility and I'm thinking about getting skunk2 coils. I was wondering how the ride quality is with the Skunk2's with stock struts?
I've rode in a car with matrix coils and the ride quality was horrible. I just want to make sure that the Skunks are nothing like that...you know the "head smacking roof" syndrome?
Will I have to get new struts?

eg4door has skunk2 coilovers on stock shocks.... its a bit bumpy.... but you wont really get a good ride with a lowered stance and stock shocks.... i have neuspeed race springs on stock shocks and my ride is not bad.... no more bouncy then with stock springs....

most likely the coils will blow your struts at some point (depending on how diciplined you are with slamming it or not)...I always think of it as a gamble, some stock shocks will last a few years, and others like mine will last a week, there really is no way to tell if they will blow or not without a crystal ball.. Personally Id stick with the sports, less hassles, less headachs...If you really want the coilovers my advice would be to wait till you get some new shocks, at least 2 of them for the rear...
It is my experiance that coilovers are coilovers...the more expensive ones should come with a 2nd spring to help out with the rebound and some extra bushings, the spring rates probably are different but i doubt you would notice the difference if you are gonna run stock shocks... I can almost gaurentee you will get the same "head smacking roof" syndrome with skunk2s and stock shocks as your buddie does with the matrix..
Stay with the eibachs

skunk2 on stock shocks= a no no.
i blew two sets of stockers before i got my agx's.
didnt drove it too hard and wasnt slammed.
or maybe the first set was really gonna die anyway. second set lasted longer, about a year.
wait till u get good shocks.
the springs that skunk2 has are kinda stiff for street driving IMO.
but they can carve turns really good.
hope that helps.

I've been riding on stock shocks for about 2yrs dropped at 2.25". I guess it's all about luck on how long your shocks last, I've been lucky with mine so far. As for ride quality it's pretty stiff, but you only notice it on ruff roads, otherwise it's not that bad.

you blew 2 set's of stocks because skunk 2's have a very high spring rate so the stock shocks couldnt' handle the "up and down" motion they induced so hence they blew....adn I hate every fuckgin day there is a can I run ractive coil overs on stock struts...jesus do a search and if you have to ask then you abviously know that it is a bad thing in the back of your head....dont' be ignorant and or cheap as ****....don't cheapen the essence of modifying....if you can't aford it then dotn' do it....

thanks for the responses guys.... the thread sort of started to lean more towards the stock shocks.... but my main concern was the ride quality. I wanted to know if the skunk coils would ride a lot rougher than the sports I have now. True the shocks might go really soon and if that does happen (fingers-crossed) then I'll have to get some adjustable shocks. But the price of the coils and the shocks will start to get closer to true coil-overs. Will the ride quality almost be the same? Cause then by logis, the true coils would be a better buy. I just want to make sure that I'm buying something that I can keep for a while.

anyways though it depends what you wanna do with you car... if your gonna track race it and can deal with a stiff ride... get some race springs... they look the best and will make you carve corners the best

Sleeves have gotta have the worst ride quality out of any spring/shock/coilover setup in my opinion even with aftermarket shocks. Putting them on stock shocks is a very bad idea if you ask me. I would be suprised if they blew quickly.
