Code 17 VSS (90 civic sedan 1.6L)
my cars throwing a code 17 (vehicle speed sensor) how do i fix it if i can? my speedo works, and its cable driven so i wouldnt think i'd have a speed sensor?

The electronic portion of the speed sensor is on the back of the cluster. May you could try swapping clusters and see if the code goes away. Check and see if your speedo is still accurate, maybe it works but not right...

why not?
How would the speedo know how fast the car was going then?
The VSS is located on the tranny closest to the firewall by the differential. Remove the cable from the vss (make sure not to loose the retaining clip) then remove the 1 10mm bolt that holds the vss to the tranny. Then simply lift the vss out. It has a little gear on the end.

^^^ If the speedo still works, what will pulling the VSS out of the tranny do? All that you would gain is the knowledge that the little gear is still there... Which is already known if the speedo works.
