clutch/tranny help
i drive a 94 integra and i'm having problems switching gears. i don't know if it's my clutch or my gearbox or what. 1st of when i start my car and i try to reverse it won't go into gear so i have to play with in it neutral and then put it into reverse. the gears don't switch easily either when i'm driving. it's not a smooth switch and i have to push/pull hard to get into the next gear. also my gears tend to grind a lot, esp. when i'm around 5 or 6 thousand rpm sometimes i have to force it to go in. one shop told me that i need a new clutch, another told me it's my gearbox so i'm better off getting a new tranny. just wondering if you guys can help me out tell me if you experienced this before and what it could be. don't wanna blow a grand on something i didn't need. thx.

could be the clutch or tranny.
i'd check to see if the slave cylinder is working properly and fully disengaging the clutch....its a lot cheaper/easier to replace than a clutch/tranny. |
The longer you drive that the worse it gets. Judging from what you decribed you dont sound too mechanically inclinded. If I were you I would have taken care of this at the first sign of trouble.
Take it to a shop. Also when shifting any standard trans. into reverse always: first then reverse |

Definetly start with the slave cylinder spend a few bucks making sure its in top shape. |
you dont need to replace the slave to make sure its engaging properly, lol.
Anyways, to me it sounds like your synchros are on they're way out. but i would have to drive it to actually tell you for sure. Take it to a shop (y) |
