clutch sticking

my clutch sticks a little...
its messed up..
i tryed wd40'ing it.. but it barely helped..
it sticks like half way down now..
why does this happen.. i remember when i used to work at honda i use to see that alot on peoples work orders..
can anyone tell me how i can fix this problem?

imported_ginxer86 23-May-2006 08:34 AM

now my car stalls when i start it in first..
and when I start it in neutral it starts fine but then I can't get it into gear...!!!

imported_Lonely Racer 23-May-2006 10:41 AM

it might be ur slave cylender..... or its ur cluch... or u have a air pocket in ur hydrolic line start whit trying to beliding it... if u get lots of air and u can't seem to get rid of the air change ur slave cylender..... or cheak for oil leaks in ur line

J2000 23-May-2006 10:48 AM

what did you do jin...i told you your clutch is weird ahaha

imported_ginxer86 23-May-2006 11:04 AM

ahhh ****... I can't even get it across the street to get it fixed..
so gay...
i tryed adding brake fluid did absolutely nothing...

changing the slave cylinder is it expensive?

dingus888 23-May-2006 11:19 AM

could be a worn peddle assembly

you coudl try adjsuting the pedel

check for leaks at the master and slave cylinder

could be a few things I dont' under stand fully what you mean ..?

imported_mikepasini 23-May-2006 11:21 AM

if you are going to change it, just buy the omni power one from optionjdm... its like 250, but it gives u like 50% less clutch travel and adjustable engage points... and more, but i can't remember off the top of my head!!! thats a worthwhile upgrade even if my slave cyl. isn't gone...

imported_Cablerat 23-May-2006 11:22 AM

Ok first, calm down..

Check and see if your slave cylinder is functional. Get someone to push the clutch pedal in and out while you look at the cylinder. Make sure the cylinder head is expanding and contracting.

If it moving but not all the way, then you can try to bleeding your clutch. If the clutch used to be fine, then I doubt it all of a sudden developed air in the lines. But, start with the cheapest options and move forward. If after bleeding the clutch still doesn't engage and disengage properly, you will have to replace the slave cylinder.

It's fairly simple to replace yourself. It's held on by like 3-4 bolts on the front of the tranny. Disconnect the clutch line, then remove the bolts. Reverse for installation. Remember you'll have clutch fluid flying all over the place. When bleeding the clutch, have patience.. you need 2 people. One to open the bleed bolt and top up the fluid and the other guy to sit there and pump the **** out of the clutch pedal.. With his/her hand for the first while, until the pedal comes back up itself, then work it with your feet.

Before doing any of the stuff, make sure there isn't something physically wrong with the clutch pedal itself or that you aren't leaking fluid out of somewhere else. IE - Cylinders or hardlines.

It could also be the master cylinder, but that's less likely to fail compared to the slave. Not sure how you would test the master, check a honda manual..

Same thing happened to my car this morning. I found this article:

http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/techcenter/articles/43837/article.html

As it says, my clutch is engaging and disengaging close to the floorboard. I don't get any slippage though - does this mean I should replace the slave cylinder or the whole clutch? What parts would I need?

Thanks.

imported_Joe_98Si 23-May-2006 05:43 PM

before you just go buy a brand new whole clutch, test your slave cylinder, then try bleeding your clutch system dont just go out and buy new parts when it would be fixed for much cheaper

imported_ginxer86 28-May-2006 03:25 AM

i need a new clutch.. i got it checked..
does anyone know where i can get a cheap clutch installed..
so far i got quoted 650$ installed stage 1

dingus888 28-May-2006 09:45 AM

lol stage 1 what..?? a stage 1 dump in a box..?
act spec, exedy..?

a exedy race organic should be 300 ish then labour prob about the same

imported_goaT 06-Jul-2006 06:43 PM

is it the same as like ur driving in gear and ur clutch gets stuck and then u pump ur clutch and it kicks in or liek when i was on the street stopped it wouldnt go into gear and then u sorta try to force it into first while u have u foot on the clutch and the car slowly moves fwd? cuz thats whats happening to my car...im thinking its the clutch cylinder.

imported_mikepasini 06-Jul-2006 07:33 PM

i don't see how its the clutch sticking because i don't see how the clutch itself would get stuck... its all hydraulics... the pedal pressure is controlled by your slave cylinder... and if the line isn't getting the proper pressure it will stay pressed in. if your clutch wasn't good, you would of noticed it before i am sure.

imported_goaT 15-Jul-2006 01:59 AM

ok now i cant put my car into gear. when i turn the car on im still pressing the clutch and it wont go into gear even if i let go and then press the clutch again nothing. when i turn the car off it goes into gear no problem. so then i put it in 1st and then pressed the clutch and then turned the ignition; 1st click, 2nd click and then rite when im turning it the car starts to move forward and then jumps and i hear a grinding noise. i've taken the air out of the lines. could it be a faulty slave cylinder? or the cluthch it self? is it just wise to take the tranny ouf ot he current engine and swap it with the one in my garage? or should i pull the full motor and then do it? thanks

sohcnotec 15-Jul-2006 01:06 PM

My buddy's 96 Integra had the same problem. Turns out the fingers/springs in the pressure plate were broken when I took out the tranny.
It's a bit of a ***** to get tranny to line up again to the engine when it's still in the car. But a lil struggle and you should be fine.
Don't forget to wash the bellhousing out and clean the shaft that the release bearing rides on. Excessive build up of dirt on the shaft won't allow the bearing to move freely and won't disengage the clutch.

imported_goaT 08-Aug-2006 04:07 PM

ok well i just got time to look at my car and the slave cylinder/master w/e is all workign fine cuz i can see the lever go back when the clutch is pressed. so its my clutch/tranny thats kaboosh.
