cluster problem
 

hi, i have SiR cluster in EK hatch. The tachnometer moves up and down at low rev (not stable), but at high rev, it is accurate. Do you know if it is a setup problem? Thanks.

are you thinking its a prob wit the cluster itself or with the car?

the car runs fine....
i am not 100% sure about the cluster...

how much is it flucuating by?

what im saying is that your gonna have to troubleshoot whether its the connections to the tach or the engine itself. If its the engine does it do this only on startup or all the time?

it happens all the time...
it fluctuates by 1000-3000rpm
but at high rev...it's working fine...

no....the motor is fine....
just the tachometer is like that....

ok then its you tach then or the wire, id say check your connection at the back of you cluster. If that doesnt work i'll check my helms when i get home

or if bruno comes on in time he can probably point you in the right direction

what do you want me to say?? :p the diagnostic procedure is clear... hook up an external tachometer and verify rpm on the motor, then take your cluster and plug it into another Civic and see if it does the same thing. If not, then insert a voltmeter into the tach pin on the cluster harness, and see if the voltage varies. but untill these are performed, I can't say...

does it stick at all when it moves in between 1000 & 3000 if it does the tach. itself is probably no good, it has a magnetic component inside and isnt worth fixing.

Problem is fixed, the cause is loose connection inside the distributor.
