civic auto tranny

you guys probably seen my previous threads, i'm looking for a new car, 1.6 el or 96-00 civic coupe, anyways, i was wondering how the auto tranny holds up on a civic?

does it need repairs anything bad about it?
i have a mx3 v6, the tranny had to be rebuilt.

auto Honda trannies are generally very good... never heard of a complaint. The manual trannies tend to get abused big time by kids.

I've never seen a lady drop the clutch at 5000 rpm and smoke rubber... nor have I seen a lady drop in to 3rd on the highway to cut off a semi, nor have I ever seen a lady powershift at 7200 rpm. I've seen teens do all of the above though... it's usually an age thing... most guys under 20 drive like idiots... I owned many cars before my Civic, and I have to admit I abused the crap out of some of those cars. When I got the Civic, it was out of my system, and I had no desire to beat in a car anymore.

I am having an issue with my auto tranny. The tranny is attached to a fairly stock motor which all belongs to a 1997 Civic Si.

The car has 222000kms on it and this is the first problem I have had with it. The car is slipping like crazy in the 2nd auto gear. It is shuttering a little when I am driving in 3 and 4 only at low speeds and RPM's.

I am not to sure how much more I can drive it. I babied the tranny I got the fluid changes when it was required etc..... I guess 222000kms is a lot for an auto tranny but realistically the Kms were put on by mostly highway driving during commute for Guelph to Toronto.

I would buy a standard if I were you. I am going to be doing a tranny swap to standard within weeks.

Standard is the way to go with civics. There is no doubt about it
