chipping OBd2 el ECU
hi i would like to chip my ECU to disable the knock sensor ..anyone who can do this let me know or which shops do this and around how much? thanks ...
i have acouple things i could possibly trade for this to be done also if someone wants... |
I'm pretty sure you can just disconnect the knock sensor, and the ECU will no longer be affected, since the KS feeds the ECU voltage when there is noise, it does not LOOK for the KS.

obd2 ecu's cannot be chipped. Well there is way but costs a lot of money apparently.
1.6 el? so d16y8? there is no knock sensor on d16's. edit: disregard my first comment I thought u meant chipping it with some type of management program |
yeah there is, Y8 has a knock sensor. Y7 also has the threaded spot on the block for a knock sensor.
|
i always read that d-series engines dont have knock sensors.
just proves you can't go by what you read on the internet. |
bbarbulo .. i dont have the knock sensor wiring even connected anwyays cus my harness didnt have it integrated .. so ur saying i dont need to get it disabled ? if its its not plugged in then theres no problem?
|
well if you are not getting a CEL for the knock sensor, then i wouldn't worry about it.
Chipping obd2 ecus is way different than obd0 or obd1 ecus and i don't know of too many places that do it. |
KS gives you a code when it detects knock, otherwise it just stays dormant. remember it's a one wire hookup taking voltage to the ECU... there is nothing coming from the ECU to the KS
|
alright guys thanks for the info im kinda happy about this less money:) thanks.
|
KS do not set a code when they detect a knock, they retard the timing when a knock is detected. The KS will only set a code when not functioning properly (ie. not pluged in or problem with the circuit)
The ecu sends a AC signal to the KS, the voltage signal varies when there is a knock detected. Code 23 - Knock sensor circuit fault. hope that helps. |
hmmm.... sounds like I'm gonna have to bust out the manuals and check this out.
|
if it is very difficult to chip the obd2 ecus, can they still be tuned to get the most out of the motor?
