chipping my car

I am going to change my ECU, and I am seeing different parts, what's the difference between the chips? p28 , p06 and which one I should put in my car wit my engine being a d16 no v-tec

zeeman 19-Feb-2009 07:04 PM

well, you don't need a p28 then.
A p28 comes from a 92-95 civic SI with a d16z6 1.6L SOHC VTEC engine.

You'll want the right program for your engine, not just some generic "non-vtec" ebay chip.

Don't expect a whole lot of performance out of some random chip though. What really gives the best result in terms of power increases is dyno tuning. Although, there isn't too much power to be unlocked on a stock non-vtec d16.

You can only "chip" obd1 ecus (92-95 civic or 92-95 integra) so if you have a newer civic don't waste your time buying a chip. Chipping is usually done to allow someone to tune the car or when you put a different engine in your car. Once the ecu is chipped it can pretty much run any engine, you just need to put the right program on the chip.

The stock ecus don't come "chipped". So when chipping an ecu one would solder in a few components. A 28-pin socket being one of the components. This socket allows you to plug in the "chip". The other components are necessary for the ecu to read off the chip instead of the main processor.

So in order to use a chip, the ecu must first be modified to accept the chip. You can also modify a non-vtec ecu and add the vtec components, essentially turning it into a p28.

There is lots of info in the net regarding chipping honda ecus, but if you have any specific questions, post em up.

So basically I have to change my stock ecu ? wouldn't me putting in one of the "p" chips change some settings. All i really want is to cahnge my red line to 8000 rpm and gain 15 hp

D.T.P 19-Feb-2009 11:33 PM

re-read what zeeman said. by chipping an ecu you can make any engine run of it. as long as you have the correct software[program] on it.
btw why do you want to rev to 8000rpm? and dont believe the ebay crap when it says "by adding this chip to your ecu, you will gain anywhere from 2-500000hp"

starboy869 19-Feb-2009 11:42 PM

yeah those ebay ecu/chips are pure trash. If you want an extra 15hp get an intake, header, exhaust.

Cheap & more HP shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

wat if u chipped ur p28 computer and made ur vtec kick in at 5500 instead of like say 4800 and remove the limiter

zeeman 21-Feb-2009 01:53 AM

even with i/h/e and tuning 15whp would be generous.

Revving a d16 non-vtec to 8000rpms would be a bad idea as well.

how about reving to 8000 ewith a z6 motor?

T-MacK 21-Feb-2009 09:03 AM

All those e-gay chips do is dump more fuel in'to your engine.
And you'll need some ARP rod bolts if you plan on running your rev limiter to 8000rpm, not that its nescecary when you have no built engine. Hence not making any power above your stock limiter.

zeeman 21-Feb-2009 09:29 AM

I wouldn't rev a z6 to 8000rpms either.

The stock d16z6 will stop making power well before the stock 7200rpms rev limit, so theres no point potentially damaging your engine by revving past that.

Now get better valve springs and retainers and a cam thats gunna make power that high then sure, but thats prolly not gunna happen with a stock bottom end with the stock compression ratio.

All those eghey chips do is dump extra fuel and jack the timing up a bunch, neither of which are what makes extra power. Every engine is different, so tuning is important.

dude all u have to do is go to teknotic.. say hi i would like to tune my car i ant power i have a stock d16 non vtec and they will guide u threw what u wanna do...find out everything u want to do and then get the price for everything then when ur ready go down and get it tunes etc./....

I thought I read once on JD.M.R that you don't talk smack about Teknotic?

Also why can't I post JD.M.R or Teknotic the proper way? Is TCC really that butthurt about another competitor?

zeeman 22-Feb-2009 09:28 AM

thats the truth bro....look at the prices on their website.

I'm done caring about that company or that forum, I lost what little respect I had for them a little while ago.

So with your 1 post, I can only imagine who from that forum you are.

Ur asking me like I make the rules here.
