Chipped engine, BAD fuel consumption?
hi guys
I got a big problem
I just brought a 96 hatch with b16a2 swaped
the problem is the fuel consumption is extream BAD
320km a tank...
the guy said that this engine has spoon chip in it.
is that the problem?
the chip just change your fuel mapping right?
what can I do?
Thank you

Well if its not any of the other possible things you could always just put the stock b16 basemap back on the chip (re-chip the ecu).
Whats the setup... b16 w/what ecu?
How does the engine run generally speaking? Good? Rough idle? Stutter or bog at all?

many things affect mileage, from weather, driving style, tranny choice, tire size, aerodynamics, city or highway drive, weight of the car, options (a/c), etc etc etc.
my EF gets better mileage than my EK if we compare stock numbers.

See how many Litres of fuel you're consuming.
I know a lot of civic's fuel guages aren't super acurate, and will read empty when there's still 15-20L of fuel in the tank! Check your gas receipt to see how many Litres you're actually putting in the car next time you fill up.

I have the same problem. I have a 96 ek cx trim with b16 swap done to it and it gives me around 400k city and 500k highway. My DA gave me better city fuel consumption anyways I'm not complaining.
Bye the way can anyone tell me how a b16a2 (usdm) runs with a P73 (type-r) ECU. More specifically would you see more gains with the type-r OBD-II vs. stock SIR OBD-II ECU or would there be a loss in power.
The reason why I ask is because I keep getting killed by a 2nd gen GSR. This GSR is only lowered and has an exhaust. My car weighs in at 2480 lbs (w full tank of gas) I know this cause I weighed it. When I raced him my tank was 1/4 full. But he kept on taking me (bad). Mind you I have a stock intake and a CX muffler but full SIR piping throughout. Can someone please advise!

I have a spoon chip as well. WORST gas mileage ever. my damn 1.6 suck's as much gas as my old Carb'd 78 Malibu with a 3.2 V6.
And dude you DEFINETLY need an Exhuast. Screw the stock piping. Everyone on this forum love's OEM stuff. OEM EVERYTHING here. I had a joe blow muffler shop straight 2" midpipe with a bigger axle back and my stock CX muffler just like you and it was choking it up bad. Get a Cheap Short ram intake and get AT LEAST a 2.25 inch exhuast. A 2.25 inch system with a proper 2.25 inch high flow cat and Resonator will be fairly quiet and give you HUGE gain's. Its not noticible at all down low but it pull's WAY harder in VTEC. You shouldn't lose to a stock GSR.Check your throttle . Mine was only opening 70% and I didn't even know it. Get some one to sit inside the car and push the gas and see if it open's fully or if you can open it further with your finger. your throttle cable might need adjusting.
Keep the chip, deal with the bad Mileage. Get I/H/E and say hello to 14's with some skill and some sticky rubber.
