I drive a mostly stock 2000 SiR , I'm wondering what a chip upgrade will do and also where I can get one done as well as avg cost.

in most cases chips do nothing unless on a turboed car.

i hear you can change your v tec (when it kicks in) dont know too much about it :shrugs:

no point in changing the vtec crossover. Honda set it where it is for a reason.
Most chips are a generic rip off of a real chip (mugen copy, or spoon copy). They usually just dump way too much fuel and advance the ignition timing a bunch so that it feels like your car is faster, when really all that happened is the power band has been moved down a little in the rpms.

that statement is untrue. Chipping the ecu won't yeild any real gains on a relatively stock engine. Meaning that if all you have done to your engine is I/H/E and a FPR there isn't really anything to tune. But if you put some aftermarket cams in or raise the compression a whole bunch you will see some gains with a CUSTOM chip.
Bottom line is that generic chips (which is usually what you get, unless you are paying big bucks) are crap. I've learned this from first hand experience. When i got my swap done the place who did it for me chipped my p28 with a mugen copy chip which lowered the vtec x-over to 4800 (for whatever reason), advanced the ignition timing way too much and dumped an insane amount of fuel throughout the rpm's. And the guy tried to tell me that this chip was supposed to be better than the stock b16 ecu which i wish they would've used, but then they would've had to wire in the busted knock sensor i got with my swap....i hate incompetent shops! But thats a whole other thread on its own.
