Check Engine Lights Question
 
Hey guys. just installed a gsr into an integra. and I came up with 2 check engine codes.

1 was CEL 20 and the other was CEL 21.

I know why CEL 21 is on because I didnt wire up the vtec yet.
But what i need to know is why CEL 20 is on.

I checked it up and it says Electrical Load Detectore defective or unplugged/defective senor.

what is that exactly?

Is this the knocksensor by any chance????

Also a another question I have is...I am using the ls harness on the gsr so i have to wire up the vtec manually. I was told by Dave from defcon that it doesnt have wires at all on the harness and that I will have to pull pins out from another harness and stick it into the plug. Can someone confirm on this? While I do trust Dave's knowledge I just want to make sure that I actually got it down correctly. Whats the best way to pull these pins out from another harness????

ELD is a US only feature as far as I know, shouldnt effect the way the car runs at all. As for the pins yes you will need to either find a place to buy new pins for the ECU plugs and solder the wires to that or pull them from another set of ecu plugs and then put them in the ECU plugs in the LS.

i believe you have to switch some pins around on the harness that goes into the ecu

you can wire the vtec directly into the ecu if you want. pulling pins isn't easy. use a paperclip in the back of the plug and there is a tab that needs to be pushed down and pull the wire out.

knock is 23, not 20. sounds like it could be related to the alternator? not sure.

pulling pins out of an ecu plug is super easy. Just remove the white plastic clip from inside the harness plug and pull the wire out.

also how would i go about removing the actual CEL now? if it is a US model only thing how come I am being thrown that code? especially on a jdm setup??? How can i make it so that it goes away and doesnt come back and bother me by lighting up again???


Oh Andrew guess why the car wasnt starting? LOL
cuz my buddy hooked up the throttle cable and it was keeping the actual throttle open the whole time when i tried to crank it. Turns out the cable is to short for it (only by like 2 cm) but it was enough for it to not close properly. I knew it was it but he insisted it would not affect it. LOL.

pull the fuse to reset the ecu- this will get rid of all cel's. you will need to do some tuning/chipping to get rid of it so it doesn't come back i'd assume.

Its probably a USDM ECU which is why its looking for the ELD, only way would be to probably have it chipped.

I had a huge problem with code 20 (ELD). I figured that our cars in canada were equipped with ELD, but i read somewhere that it is the heating element of the O2 sensor. So check or change out the O2s.

and its the o2 sensor?

ELD has nothing to do with your O2 Sensor, ELD stands for Electrical Load Detector. Basically it tells the car to raise the idling rpm when there is a load on the car such as the A/C, headlights etc. Most cars have this signal sent from the actual unit when its turned on (A/C) etc but in the US they have the ELD which detecs an increase in load put on your electrical system.

explain to me then, why did changing the O2 get rid of the problem.....we do not ELD afaik, on my car atleast

you most likely had a code 2 for your secondary O2 sensor and not a code 20.

yeah code 2 was for older civics oxygen sensor "b" . Changing your O2 sensor has nothing to do with the ELD so obviously there was something else going on. ELD is located IN the fuse box and if it malfunctions you have to replace the entire fuse box.
