Check Engine light is on and ANNOYING!!!
Hey guys many have gone through the **** i have been going through for the past year
Here is my problem
its a 1996 civic d series engine vtec
now my light has always been on ever since i threw in my short ram intake. but no major shift/change in performance..
here is the error code
41 Primary Oxygen Sensor - Heater circuit malfunction
if anyone could help that would be great

well it looks like ur o2 sensor's heater isnt working...so get a new o2 sensor...or check continuity on the heater wire on the o2 sensor
the o2 will function fine when its up to temp but the CEL is on cuz its not functioning properly

here is what i found out after i pulled the codes.
LF=long flash(1 SECOND)
SF=short flash(LESS THAN 1 SECOND)
first error read like this
LF LF LF LF SF
...pause...
LF LF LF LF LF LF SF SF SF SF SF
IS THE FIRST ERROR 41 AND THE SECOND ERROR 65?

here is what i got from researchign on the net
41 Primary Heated O2 sensor heater circuit Open or short in Primary O2 sensor heater circuit, defective Primary O2 sensor heater circuit
65 Secondary Heated O2 sensor circuit Open or short in Secondary Heated O2 sensor circuit, defective Secondary Heated O2 sensor circuit

65 Secondary Heated O2 sensor circuit Open or short in Secondary Heated O2 sensor circuit, defective Secondary Heated O2 sensor circuit

clearly you have an issue with the heater circuit, so #1: how did you pull those codes? - procedure
#2: what electrical work was done when installing this intake (did you unplug any wires??)
#3: put the stock intake on, and then clear the codes and see if the CEL comes back
#4: check for heater voltage at the ECU and then at the O2 connectors
#5: if no voltage at ECU, replace ECU with a known good one or chip it to remove the heater circuit. The O2s will still work once warmed up from exhaust heat.

i used a pin and stuck it in the lil blue ......k well there was a blue plastic piece and its housed in a green plastic piece..lol sorry but i'm not that good with names....
but its located next to the ECU on the passenger side.
and i waited to read the codes and i got all those...
yes there is one sensor that goes in the whole and i think when i was installing it i may have pulled the wired a bit too hard.
could this be a problem?
where does that sensor lead to? i could check if it got unplugged from the other end.
i'm gonna do what bbarbulo said..i'm going back stock.

but it makes no sesn it says my primary sensor is not wokring and then it salso saying my secondary is not owkring..
anyone could explain in plain simple english why these errors are showing up?
whats this heated thing mean.???
is it overheating..leaking air somewhere.
Please and thanks so far for all the info.
And Mr."kwikb16a2" i can see your car in the trash can by the end of the month.... seems like you don't like facing reality huh??...lol i used to be that way. clearly electrical tape would have been the way.....Not This Time!

no the O2 sensors have heaters built in on OBD2 cars to get them to operating temperature quicker so that heater is busted .. and yes both sensors could go on an OBD2 car there is 2 sensors...

Yeah, the fact you accidentally yanked on one of the sensor wires may have loosened the connection. Follow those wires all the way back, from the sensors to the ECU - ultimately they terminate at the ECU but there are a bunch of connectors and whatnot that it goes through.

well the sensor that goes into the stock air ube thats what i think i yanked on.
and i maybe pulled it only a1cm or 2..there has to be a little room coz the wires can't be that short. it needs some play don't u think?

that would have been your intake air temperature sensor... unlikely it has anything to do with your problem then
nonetheless, start with a continuity check between the ECU and the sensor heater circuit

do you have an after market header on the car if no, check to see if there is a cracked manifold from the o2 censor they are famous for that and there is a bulletin on that they will cover it to 160000 km and usually you would get a new o2 out of it in my experience working for honda i have personally replace hundreds of these. so check that out.

Prodecure for pulling the codes were by headign down towards the Ecu in the passenger side using a paper clip to plug it into the blue circuit and then i turn the key just before it is ready to start the car.
if you guys need more info let m eknow coz this is bothering me.
i know for a fact that LordM that when he will use this computer of his it will say somehting about error codes and its not gonna give me an exact plocation. but yes if it does i'm willing to do it. otherwise if he picks up the error codes as 41 and 65 then pretty much i already did that and his efforst would not be useful to me.
what do you guys think
