cheapest engine swap thread!

hey guys...
i'm very interested in an engine swap...
i have a 92 civic sedan (dx)
i have the following ideas so far.

1.6L sohc si motor
b16a2
b18b
h22

what are the cheapest prices out there ?
i'm hoping i could find a place to get it done for a really good price and maybe we could all go after winter and get a group buy on the engine swaps or something...
it benefits me and the rest of the members that want swaps..
so please guys...give us some suggestions...
THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!

What a helpful bunch of post ******...

Prices no installed, decent shape...complete swaps, respectively:

800
3800
2500
4500

Prices may vary, but that's your breakdown. There was once a group buy on engines by a company in Ottawa. Never heard of one again...guess it didn't go so well. Group buys are a little hard to do, since these are not new, in the box items. Kinda gotta do your research. Anyways, keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds of every canadian board, and be prepared with cash in hand, cuz good motors go fast. And this benefits no one but you...

Really? Where you get those prices? I'd like to know.. considering most SOHC vtec swaps themselves cost $900+ not installed... Where are you getting your prices? Those are some wicked deals. B16a2 installed for $3800? I think the engine, tranny, ecu goes for $3500 alone.. H22 for $4500? Damn... The damn mounting kit costs ablmost $1000 for Hasport. Where you find these shops that work for bread and water.. I'll send all my work there.

If that's the case then they seem a little expensive.

KS-R, these are prices not installed, but they are for good low mileage engines. The prices may be high, but I'd rather pay a little more to ensure a legal and solid low mileage engine. I haven't the slightest clue about how much installs would cost since I do my own work, but yes...install kits for the H22A add about $600USD to the cost. Check out HASport and Place Racing for mount kits and wiring harnesses.

Oh, and also, the general public can't get shop prices, so we do end up paying more for our engines. This is why I asked you to source a B18B for me if possible from a 00-01 base 'teggy.

When do you need it?

Not to be a pessimist, but I suggest you find out everything about that swap... Not even whether it's legit or not, but rather.. how complete, etc.. Cause.. next thing you know.. you'll be getting a call saying that you'll need a bunch of new parts.. cause this didn't fit, etc... blah, blah, blah... You get the point.

I've heard enough of those horror stories from customers. Damn.. only if I could pull scams like that all the time.. or maybe once in awhile LOL

That's just my suggestion, just for your sake... Not trying to bash anyone or any shop.. But if you do get that swap installed for $2500.. That's a wicked deal.

That seems low...you sure the motor is good? And legit? Cuz as KS-R said, B16A2s go for $3500. You may be getting like a high mileage 92 Civic SiR engine...you better watch out. Never know what comes from Japan...get a compression ratio and leakdown test done before you dish out the cash. Run through the gears on the tranny, and get a written guarantee if you can. Once the cash leaves your hands, it's yours. So give him maybe 25% down upon bringing the car in, and show him a certified cheque for the rest...so when the car is done, and you are satisfied, he gets the cheque.

KS-R, the B18B would be needed in March/April...it should have less than 50K kms, and considering it's just after winter, there should be lots of wrecked teggys. So more choices to pick out a gem from. We'll be in touch, but I was just wondering if you'd be able to get a better deal from a wrecker than me, so I would give you that finders fee instead.

Regardless of how much the swap is you should seriously consider getting the engine rebuilt or at the very minimum having everything replaced that can be done, i.e. gaskets, belts, etc.
Easier and cheaper to get it done while the engine is out of the car. Plus it saves headaches.

Check my boy Dave at SNS Racing. He will run down all the stuff required for a swap.He will give you a good price. It's probably better if you see him at the shop. He's real busy so call the shop 416-767-0767. If he ain't there ask for his cell. Make sure to ask for Dave seeing how he is the Honda guy at the shop.
