cheap sway bar options

ok I need a sway bar what are some cheap ones to go for?

DumbasSi 13-May-2005 07:52 PM

OEM ITR or SiR :shrugs:

I second the OEM ones. They can be had for 100 - 150 used...+/- Endlinks.

i am very pleased with my suspension techniques sway bars. Got em for about $400 and i am sure that they can be found cheaper too if willing to buy online.

zeeman did you have to buy both of them as part of a kit?

anyways this is for a 5th gen hatch that has no rear bar and is on stock springs...

I'm looking for cheap options.. so stock is one ...how much are those new?

zeeman 13-May-2005 11:11 PM

yes i bought both front and rear as a kit. I have a 95 civic coupe, it also had no rear sway bar. Now the rear sway bar is the size of the factory front one, and my front sway bar is pretty damn beefey, it also came with polyurethane bushings, the D-brackets, and all necessary hardware.
And let me tell you, the difference in handling that this kit made was night and day, and i already had tokico springs and illumina's.
I would imagine that you could just purchase a rear sway bar from suspension techniques....otherwise a stock SIR or ITR rear bar would be a good choice, but i think you would also need to use the matching rear lower control arms, since the EG's don't have anywhere to mount the bar to.
With the ST kit i have all i had to do was turn the rear shocks around so that I could attach a little L shaped bracket (included with the kit) to attach the sway bar endlink to.

i got a gsr rear for 50 bucks. then just picked up some polyurethane bushings for it. going to be picking up a si 21mm front sway soon too.

hey zeeman how thick is that front/rear bar on the ST kit? with that setup how's it over the speedbumps. no worries about ripping the sub frame? because i've seen sub frames rip still wth ST bars.

I went with a gsr sway bar in the rear with omni lcas, with the stock si front bar. Only problem was the difference with the omni lca and the EK ones are the EK have a spacer already attached. So we had to make a custom spacer for the gsr sway to work with the omni lca.
Total price....160 omni....135 swaybar with all parts....custom spacer 0.
So just under 300 for the setup.

This is on a 95 si coupe.

you'll need to pick up some gsr rear lca's to eh... i got my gsr rear sway bar from scratch for about $200... best suspension mod i did to my old car hands down
