cheap shocks
k my shocks are blown and i wanna get some shocks that are cheap.
i dont really care about them being adjustable, i just want them to be able to handle a lowered car
also, im getting 17s soon so i just want a slight drop, what springs would be good to lower the car about 1 inch
im looking to spend about $300-$400 on the shocks, springs whatever i have to wait till spring anyways but i need the shocks now
i drive an eg civic coupe...and the car is lowered probably about 2.5-3 inches on coilovers
sugesstions?

But for the person who started this thread, just keep in mind that the GR-2's lifetime warranty is voided if you use them with coilover sleeves or a drop greater than a certain amount, either 2 inches or 1.5 inches. So both of those things would be working agianst you if you bought the shocks now but didn't buy springs until later.

i would stick to the coilivers but the ride is just too much on me....my spinal cord feels dislocated, so im probly gonna get the tien h tech...s tech would be too low for 17s i think
i hear its a tight enough fit stock on egs

If you're willing to spend a little more, Koni Reds wil be much better then the GR2 or HP and they will handle a lower drop. I had them on my 98 with H&R Sport springs and the ride and drop were perfect for a daily driver.

buyinig the gr2s would be an oem replacement but oem is not intended for lowering springs...
soo, i would assume you should get somethinig a little stiffer and if you are sitting that low, unless you want to bounce around all over the place then i wouild get at least kyb agxs or koni reds... i heard the reds are almost as stiff as the yellows, its just that they are not externally adjustable either.

If this person is running h-techs then GR-2's will be fine for that.
Tokico blues would be fine as well.

is there a consense on this yet?
I have tien springs just can't remember which ones...but my 17's rub! lol.
And i too am broke but need shocks BADLY, as my poor car bottoms out on just about everything and high speed is scary.
Koni reds? GR2's ?

y would you want to cheap out on something as important as shocks....i mean it only dictates how comfortable of a ride your car will be. And with lowered cars, it becomes increasingly important to have good shocks.
Just save up a little longer and buy some good ones.....you won't regret it.

I got 17's blown oem shocks sleeve overs and im lowered close to 3" around don't know the exact figure but theres less than a finger gap between tire and fender tein flex is the replacement. Many shocks will handle a 1 inch drop even so get some CT monroe's and call it a day. But at the end of the day 17's EG 1" lowered = 4x4 still. The KYB's are good for about 1.5 or a bit over tops unless you modify the tophat and the housing I believe to get the piston to have the same amount of travel but with the ability to handle drops of usually 3/4" to 2" more with out being blown. For close to 700 or 800 you might score a set of full omni coilovers which might suit your needs best.
IMHO DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON SUSPENSION THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE OF THE CAR BOUNCING WITH BLOWN SHOCKS AT HIGH SPEEDS AND IT CAN LEAD TO THE CAR SKIPPING AND SPINNING OUT. PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE AND DON'T ENDANGER OTHERS JUST TO SAVE A BUCK.

i am also in the same situation as you, i am also having trouble deciding to go with Tien H tech which is Front 1.3" and Rear 1.0" drop with KYB GR 2's. I want my ride to be as smooth as a new car. I have to chose between stock springs or those tien with GR2's. My car is 2" and 1.5" low and stock shocks are already blown.
