ok, 92 si hatch...

Best bet is weight reduction... you have a fat little car there (well.. so do I )

Take out P/S, A/C, cruise, carpet, sound deadening, moon roof (weld on sheet metal), take out seats, spare, jack, get rid of sound deadening in wheel well, take out the heater core, bumper supports (I personally wouldn't do it), clean out your car.

^ all of that would be the best bang for the buck seeing how it is free.

other than that, save your $$$ and get a different engine.

Tune up is the best hp you'll ever find... improves fuel economy too... get a new O2 sensor while you are at it. Revamp your cooling system.

You could try replacing your air filter with a K&N. I've heard, repeat heard, that it can give you 3-5 whp on a d block. One of those gaudy Cold Air Intakes painted in whatever flavour of rice you prefer gives you slightly more but for more money.

funny how a junk yard turbo set up is worth many times the cost of the actual motor.... the key is finding a solid turbo with no shaft play

What type of budget? Low bucks? If you're not mechanically inclined, then you're into spending $$$ whatever it is.

Look into getting the head ported and polished. Then port match the stock exhaust manifold and run a 2" exhaust with high flow cat. Any larger than 2" and you lose torque - which moves you down the road - which is the point anyways..

Peace..

I'm selling my custom kit for $1500.00, bolts right up to your application, all you need is an fmu and fuel pump (I can recommend another type of fuel management though).

check it out:

Mitsubishi TD05-14b turbo with internal wastegate and external wastegate actuator, minimal shaft play, some typical exhaust housing cracks, all stainless steel braided oil lines, oil return pipe, and coolant lines,
Custom fabricated cast manifold with all mounting hardware and gaskets,
Modified Starion front mount intercooler (modified for 5G civic application)
1G DSM blow off valve
2.5" Down pipe
2.25" custom intercooler piping (for 5G civic)
All silicone hoses and clamps

$1500.00

With the following:

OBX Racing series boost gauge
Autometer Ultralight A/F gauge
Autometer Dual gauge pod (pillar)
HKS EVC electronic boost controller

$2000.00

Also have cleaned and balanced DSM 450cc injectors and resistor box $200.00 (<1000kms).

I'm running 10psi on my D16Z6 now and she gets along very nicely and sounds sick.
