Changing Tranny Fluid

Ive grinded my gears a bit forgetting to push the clutch in all the way, should I change my tranny oil soon to get the metal debris out of there, or will it be fine untill im ready for suggested interval change?

Also any diff between regular tranny oil and synthetic?

thanks.

Get a magnetic plug from CT..

Does the exact same thing as the spoon model for lots less..

You can also get one for your oil pan too..

:D

attract any metal debris that may be in there?

Matt, use genuine Honda MTF to get the best feel out of your tranny... trust me. If the dealer says to use 10W30, slap him across his fat mouth, and tell him you didn't come for advice, you came for genuine Honda MTF. Ohhhhh, but you should be okay for now... wait a couple of months when you've gotten all the grinding out of your system :p

Diff't trannys use diff't materials and processes, so one MTF is not good for all trannys, that's why we use only genuine Honda MTF.

imported_loudsubz 26-Mar-2003 11:09 AM

How much would a bottle cost to buy from the dealer?

bbarbulo 26-Mar-2003 11:11 AM

Depends on how bad your dealer wants to screw you... mine didn't even stock Honda MTF, so I got stuck using 10W30, but it feels so notchy... now I know better so I'm gonna order ahead, but it's like $10 a liter, and you need under 4 liters I think?? Last time I got a 4 liter of Castrol GTX and I had a little bit left, so about 3.5 liters I guess...

Thanks for the offer Sam, but wont be changing my fluid for a while now, scott put in Honda MTF when he did the swap a few weeks ago, I guess I just worried a little bit when I grinded a few times.

Im good to go for another 45,000 km or so.

Spazz 26-Mar-2003 11:39 PM

the fluid is about 21 dollars i think for 3 liters. what what i paid, three bottle for my d16y7. and it was easy just take off the drain and fill plugs, drain and then get a funnel witha hose attached to it to refill it. oh, don't forget to put back the drain plug before you refill. and when the trany doen' hold anymore then close it up and take if for a short drive, (like down the drive way and back) and then cheack the fill plug to make sure that it's topped off.

bbarbulo 28-Mar-2003 10:01 AM

Quaker State/Quick Lube/Jiffy Lube will all do it, but they won't use Honda MTF but 10W30 instead.
