Cel

Hi, I have a 92 civic, and the CEL is throwing a code, how am I to check it?

Should I buy the thingy that lets you check? Is it expensive? Anyone have one that could hook me up ?Should I bring it to a shop? Thanks.

PS. I got a new (well used but it works) ECU in my car, and now when it's cold it will idle at 2Gs, andt hen slowly go down to normal as it warms up... is this normal? With the old ECU it never really idled at more than 1600...

should idle at about 1500ish when cold.

check the CEL code by :

I really think you should try to find someone reliable to work on your car. like there are a few guys on here who have shops or do work on the side... try to find one of them and let them fix ya up.

Thank you,

It's throwing code 19:

Automatic Transmission Lock Up Control Solenoid Valve defective circuit or unplugged / defective solenoid valve

Now I'm officially 100% lost as the car is a manual. WTF does this mean then? I re set the ECU by pulling the negative nerminal off and then putting it back on and it's still there.

automatic ECU, also explains why your idle is so high!!!

zeeman can convert your ECU from auto to manual.

if zeeman is too far or whatever, here is how you attempt to do it.

and yes, you did get screwed. you got a $40 ECU for $180.
