CB boot....
 

i noticed my cb boot is ripped.... need a replacement.. anyone know if this can be done at home??? also, under the car near the tranny, there this black boot.. looke like the cb boot... looks like theres a rip there and grease is covering hte boot cause of hte rip.. anyone know what that is called and how big of a problem it is???

Reaplace as soon as possible... it CAN be done at home if you know how to pull your axles out. There are repair kits and stuff, but nothing beats the proper fix.

Other one you speak of... could be your steering rack boot, but since you can't pinpoint it for us, it's hard to say what it is... there are a pile of them that all look about the same.

Check if it connects to the exact center of your wheel/rotor. If so, its your driveshaft boot.

First you need to see if your driveshaft is already garbage or not.. Do you hear clicking noises when you turn and press the gass? If so, you might as well replace the driveshaft.

If your driver side shaft is ripped, then it should click when you turn right. If it clicks on both, then either both shafts are bad or that one is really bad. try to listen whcih side the clicking may be coming from too. Remember it won't really click unless you press the gas while turning.

If there's no clicking sounds, then you can repair the boot. You get driveshaft boot repair kits at NAPA auto parts. like $25 i think.

Do NOT buy canadian tire kits. They are generic pieces of crap.. NAPA's is aftermarket stock.

It's kinda annoying though. First get your drive shaft out of the tranny.

Cut the old boot off
Remove boot clips
Remove Shaft housing.
Clean all the grease off. Use brake cleaner NOT WD40.
Remove the bearing assembly, there should be clips holding it place.
Once you get the bearings off, slide new boot on..
Tighten the bottom boot clip.
Put bearing assembly and clips back on
Fill it up with the grease from the kit you bought.
Slide the shaft housing on again.
Tighten the top boot clip.

My instructions suck, but once your doing it you'll understand it.. pretty self explanatory.

buy a hayns manual 20$...step by step instrucctions...cant go wrong...pluse its good for future repairs:)

replace this as soon as possible. my wheel studs ripped right out of the rotors when i waited too long.

ya Its one of those things that get allot more expensive as you leave it, I left mine and ended up replacing axles...200 dollers apposed to 30 boot kit...I kicked myself once that axle started clicking...

i think thats cause of another problem.

nobody likes to see that...

man $200 for an axle installed.. sucks..

$90 bucks for a rebuilt civic axle from most japanese places, install yourself. save bigtime.
