Cat Problem?
 

Hey everyone, I am having a little sound problem which i think is coming from my cat, but i just wanted to see if someone could shed a little more light on it for me before i replace my cat.

Everytime whether i am in neutral or in gear, at around 3,000 RPM there is this buzzing sound from some part of my exhaust. at first i thought it was my heat shield so i removed that but it still does it. It only sounds when i am at the certain level in RPMs (not before or after) any ideas?

theres more than one heatshield.

Its either a loose nutor broken spring or a heatshield.

i had this same problem...i thought it was my cat and replaced it...to find out it was the resinator...u should be able to jack the car up and kinda rattle it to hear the same noise...hope this helps

oops. I forgot to mention it could be an internal problem as well (cat/res/muffler) but those are less common..

no, not that i notice. although at times i smell a strong gasoline stench, if that has anything to do with anything......

fuel leaks are common on these cars, I have recently found out.
I just had to replace my tank and there was another member on here that was having a leak problem as well.

And as kmodee said, could be the resinator as well. Mine buzzes while I accelerate.

bang on the cat using your hand. The internal honey comb broke off if it makes any rattle sound.

well, i thought it was my cat too, so i cut it out, turned out, its not lol. looks like its my muffler i think. the baffles are gone inside i suspect and it rattles and sounds really....really ghetto.

did u check the resinator? just bang on it with ur hand..

na i probably should though. hope its not that POS, ill have to just slap a cherry bomb on instead. same thing.
