Car won't start!!

I've did a search on this topic on several forums and now I just need some suggestions. So here's the situation, whenever I leave my car for an extended period of time it's hard to start. Sometimes it won't start at all. When I turn the key, it doesn't crank at all, the odd time it might crank after a while but it will start no problem (ie, no hesitation). Whenever I hold the key there too long cel code 8 will appear (TDC sensor). Also sometimes when I reclean the battery terminals I can get it to crank. I've tested the battery at Can tire and it was ok, I checked and replaced the cap and rotor, checked all grounds. The only way I could get my car to start for sure is to jump it. So I've narrowed it to two things, either the battery isn't supplying enought amperage, or the dist is bad, what do you guys think? Thanx

civ-tr, check the "main-relay"

for some reason alot of mainrelays fail breifly when they sit and get stuffy (hot) in the car, my moms car does it, and so does mine..

I think this is your problem bro

also checkout to see if the contacts going to the starter are not corroded at all....

if it isn't cranking at all, the main relay wouldn't be the problem, however if it cranks for a long time, and doesn't start that is when it's the main relay, however check the contact points on the starter, but cuz it's a 97 should not be too corroded (sp)

I'll check the contacts to the starter, I really don't think it's a main relay problem....thanx

ive had the same problem buy a new battery ... and if tht doesnt work return the battery and get full refund .. thats wht i did but i found out my battery is dead.. i also did a check on my battery and it was said it was ok ... but then my dad told me to get a new battery and problem solved.......

yeah, that's what I was planning to do. It just seemed too unlikely that it could have been the battery, since all the lights work perfectly (ie. no dimming), the test, and that I had just changed it last year. But I guess I'll change it anyway to see if it solves the problem.

let me know if it works....
