Question Car whistles at 5000 RPM in 3rd gear?

Not only in 3rd gear, well in 2nd as well. Basically, right around 5000 RPM and also giving gas, there is this whistle sound. High pitch sound that I was never aware of.

I rarely rev, almost none. Last night, while going on ramp to 401, I was in 2nd and wanting to get up to speed (well, no torque... what can you do eh?) to merge into traffic so I gave a little more gas and it went to 5000 RPM and made this sound.

What is this?

you gotta be more specific about the whistle... is it your alternator belt, tensioner pulley, water pump, power steering pump, is it wind noise, tranny noise... where is it coming from??

It can't be wind noise. The sound only occurs when I press on gas padal while the engine revs at 5000 or more. When you let go gas, it doesn't whistle even reving at 5000.

Air filter is about... 8 months old? I don't know where the sound is coming from.

Short Ram or CAI will do this. only at a specific throttle position regardless of the gear. i wish mine was louder.

Nothing, didn't change anything since I last got SRI. It was a cheap one cause power was never my intention. Tower bar was pressing down OEM filter box so I had to get rid of it. I think I rev that high before (not often) and it didn't make that sound...

So what does that mean? (if it is the exhaust) Does it mean that it is time to change exhaust? Or somewhere along the pipe there is a loosen bolt?

The exhaust has been on the car since day 1. It has 104000km on it, 4 years old.

try the air filter first under the hood .. you be surprised how much the intake affects the sound.

hahaha mine does the same thing aswell around that rpm's, i did it and had my buddy stand outside of the car and said it was the muffler. I assume theres a small hole. I thought it was something wrong aswell but its only the exhaust. Get someone to stand outside and rev it up in neutral, you'll probably hear it

Sounds like it could be a lot of things...

I will try rev in neutral thingy first, then change the air filter. I mean, I should do it regardless, it is so frigging old...

Dam this sounds familiar my car just started to make a whistling noise too, I know though there’s a number of things I have to do maintenance wise before I start freaking. One of the things I know for sure I need to fix is my header (cracked). The only difference with mine is it doesn’t happen every time and not at the same RPM every time. It really sounds like something spinning around really fast like a small propeller?

i think his exhaust did that cause there was so much air trying to escape a small hole it just whistled. he since put on a muffler thats more free flowing than the stock one and it no longer whistles, but im not sure if it would be the same casse with u.
i know in my civic, with my short ram when im shifting as soon as i let off the throttle it make a whistling sound at any rpm, but thats cause of the short ram. where is the sound comign from in ur car, uinder the hood or some where else?
