car turns off when starting it warm

I got a zc in a 90 dx.. and when the car is cold and I start it it's all good.. but sometimes when it's warm and I start it again it starts, but then it just chokes and slowly turns off.. it happens once in a while and it started happening a month ago..
I changed the distributor 3 mths ago.. got new spark plugs.. I dunno what it could be..

any ideas?

What kind of fuel are you using? JDM engines require Premium fuel. Japanese "regular" is like our premium. Their "High octane" is something like 100. If you are not using premium fuel that could be a cause....

fuel filter, squirrel in the throttle body, potato in the muffler ... any number of things... time to bust out the multimeter and start probing around

I had the same problem and it ended up being the fuel pump.

My ZC runs fine on 87 Octane.
Never knocked or anything, I've been told from the other CRX'ers that 87 is good.

I don't think its the squirrel though, maybe the hamster is not happy with the way you're treating it...

I don't think it's a mechanical problem...I think it's more of an electrical problem. I believe one or two of your sensors that manage you fuel/air ratios are beginning to deteriorate. Have then replaced with someone elses or go to a junk yard and find em...it's an easy fix and cheap if you do it this way...then when you find that it is the problem, go buy em new or use the junk yard ones for now.

Cheers,
Buddah.

Hey Buddah,
do you mean the oxygen sensor?
I'm having a similar problem but I was told its the fuel pump.

Thanks!

One way to check if it's the fuel pump is to open the gas door, take off the gas cap and listen for a buzzing noise when the car is on.
If it buzzes, the fuel pump might beed to be changed soon.

The only question I'd have with that diagnostic is that, temperature should have no bearing on whether or not the fuel pump is active or not. Infact, the lower the temperature, the harder the pump is working...so by that means, it doesn't sound like the fuel pump is at fault.

Cheers,
Buddah.

y a..i heard that 87 octane is plenty...actually i think that any 1989 should be lucky to even get a chance to drive on the street, let alone be picky on octane settings....
