car so bumpy now!
I think I jumped so many speed bump!:drivesafe the ride is not smoth at all! what do u guys think? shocks? springs? coil over? what needs to be replaced? and does anyone know how to make that trunk cover quiet a bit (the one that covers the trunck between back seat and glass door? the one that folds... 5th gen hatch)?
shocks IMO
what is done to your car? did it start all of a sudden?
is it bouncey? or bumpy? |
its stock, just have 17" rims! and its bumpy? every time i pass a small bump at high speed it fells like something hit the car form under!
maybe since those rims are probably quite heavy the shocks blew... so they aren't providing any shock absorbtion???
what should i replace them with? and can some one tell me whats the diffrence bettwn shocks, springs, struts and coilovers?
shocks and struts do the same thing... someone mentioned the exact difference before... but your car has "shocks"....
and springs are just springs... coilovers are springs whose overall length can be adjusted by various means like when you push on a corner of the car is it really bouncy?? |
i don't know how bouncy it supposed to be?
well the suspension should compress and come back up.... and thats all... if it goes down up down up etc that is not good
so if it only goes down and comes up, does it mean the shocks are good?
i think so.... like if you drive and hit a bump... does it bounce like a caddy or is it smooth??
a bouncey ride is one where you hit a bump and it just starts bouncing up and up and upo and down .. etc over and over again from 1 bump
a bumpy ride is what you discribed .. a harsh "shock" felt when going over a bump the difference is important a bouncey ride will be from blown shocks ... this is becuase springs like to bounce and the shock is there to stop that effect a bumpy ride could be multiple things .... but in this case I'm guess not enough "spring" in the tire spring in the tire you say??? has gatherer been drinking again?? nope I have not been drinking there is a spring rate that is dynamic in a tire and is chasnged by the pressure in the tire. now what does this have to do with your case? you put 17's on ... the car's suspension was designed with a certain tire pressure (and size) in mind so by changing the spring rate in your tire to something that "harsher" (or stiffer) then what you have stock then your going to get a harsher ride... ok want to prove me wrong? take your stock steelies and tires inflate the tirs to the pressures that honda recommends and put them on the car and drive... does the harshness go away ? if not I was wrong .... NOTE: THIS TEST WILL NOT WORK BY SIMPLY CHANGING YOUR 17'S TO THE RECOMMENDED STOCK PRESSURE. |
:drunk: <------ gatherer
hey don't knock it till you try it ... I think I'm right
i think you are... cause normally the tires would absorb a lot of shock... which normally wouldn't even touch the suspension... but its probably getting "jolted' by the really low pro tires that would be on 17" to fit in a civic....
i am going to be so so liquored up from tomorrow night till sunday morning.... looks like its gonna be a drunk warped tour :) |
