Car set up: Pedals

Hey, does anyone know why the brake pedal comes from the factory so far forward of the accelorator?

I can understand why it isn't behind the accelorator, but why not in line with it?

The reason i ask is I'm thinking about adjusting the pedals to be flush so I can practice heel-toeing.

Is there some safety concerns with doing this/ legal issues?

The thick rubber pad on the brake is the difference...

I believe the reason why the accelerator rests higher than the brake pedal is because when you are moving, your foot is depressed on the gas, bringing it to the same level as the brake pedal.

Thus, it is actually quicker to step on the brake from the accelerator.

Do you know how to heal toe or is this your learning experience?

I "know" (sorta) how to heel toe, but being able to do it is a totally different matter.

Agh, what the heck, I got a del Sol shop manual, I can always bring it back to stock.

So I'm not braking any laws / endangering my life by making them flush?

do you have a set of racing pedals?

I would highly recommend a set if you're planning to heal toe, it will help close up that gap and make the pedals a little bigger.

I would recommend against adjusting the height of you pedals, but thats just me. You sound like you really want to do it, so heres a toast to experimentation.

No...

I have a set of MOMO pedals with no plates behind them.

Just shop around until you find a set you like.

Nah, don't have racing pedals, but I'm sure you guys are right, I need to bring the pedals closer together.

The stock pedals I have right now are too far apart. I'd like to try a few different H-T methods, I've heard of the bie toe small toe, but my pedals are too far for that.

The plates there look nice but I'm not sure I would want those.

Reason I'm thinking if I'm going to be H-T I'm probably going to use a wide fat skatboarding shoes like Airwalks, then on top of that, if I'm going to get pedal covers to make the pedals closer then watch out! It's a recipt for potential disaster.

Just imagine, tearing around at full throttle when a school bus full of 5 year old kids cuts you off and AGHAGAH! My foot got caught on the back edge of the brake pedal cuz it's so damn close to the accelorator and cuz I'm wearing these friggin fat SK8boarding shoes!

A pedal design I would be looking for is a brake pedal with the anti-slip crap that goes all the way around the right edge of the pedal, the design above looks like it'll be pretty slippery on the right edge there, not too good for H-T. Might be even worse than stock rubber esp if my shoes are wet.

Second thing I'd be looking for is a brake pedal the continues around to go beside the throttle so that if my foot is full on the throttle I won't be able to catch my foot on the back of the brake pedal.

Sounds pretty custome egh? It's what the CART drivers use.

I'm sure I can come up with a good (and safe) solution....

REally, I may have to look into that... :working:

Man I'm also thinking I may have to build my own brake pedal... Hmmm maybe it's time to get back into welding/get my own torch.

THat would be SO cool.

Marty.

Give me a shout as to how much all 6 bulbs would cost to replace? And how much it would cost to remove the clear corners at the same time.

So... Give me 2 quotes.

1. First quote is bulbs only.
2. Second quote is bulbs and remove amber crap from the side.

Kent..
already told ya pal..

there's a guy at the Gen7 site that'll do them and give you the bulbs for $100

bulbs only i'll have to price out..
a source (ED) tells me $25 for the H4's, and i'll find out the cost of the b1hybrids..probably no more than $50 total..

when you're ready lemme know and i'll give him a shout for a time..and we'll take a boogie out to NY.. (up Allen..north of 401..)
