Car has a Wierd and VERY strong smell comming from....
Hi.
Today I finally lowered my car with New Tokico blues and my H&R sports from last summer.
I had to put-in new OEM LCA bushings and bolts(rear section), as the old ones were rusted to sh*t and had to be torched/ cut.
I left the stock rims and all seasons on, for another week or 2...
Now, the car handels great and all, but there is this very strong and annoying smell comming from rear wheels. It smells like candle smoke. (When you blow a candle and smoke rises with nasty smell....) I thought maybe something is getting fried?
Smell is so strong, that when I turn on my heater, it fills the cabin. And no, I don't think its from the heater. I got out of the car and smelled everything, including the exhuast. It IS from the rear wheels.
Could this be the new bushings breaking-in or something?

no bushings dont smell... maybe your brakes are dragging. and if its from the rear it wouldnt come through the vents, thats areodynamically impossable.
hmm candel smell, evey candel smells different... hard to diagnose from an explination.

Man its annoying. Now that I parked my car inside the garage, the whole garage is filled with the smell!!
It smells like normal candles. The ones with no scent....
Aerodynamical or not, the smell is there man! It comes inside the cabin.... I chekced engine bay, no smell. Rear wheels, LOTS of candle smoke smell.....

same shocks brand new (tokico blue) last summer right here
definatly didnt smell, as for bushing, logic says no.
wheel bearing, possibly, but you would hear it, brakes possibly. something in the engin, possibly

rust builds on the contact points of the brake pad, take them out and grind down the edges until you shiny metal again, take out the carriers, and clean the metal shims with a wire brust and take them out, and file down where the contact points are with a file.. when installing them again make sure that they go in nicely without force..i've had so many of these problems at work it's uncanny...good luck

If you damaged the brake line then they could have collapsed inside not allowing the brakes to return. Check the brakes and clean them up and lube them. If you still get the smell try flex lines.
Make sure your wheel cylinder return. If they dont return try returning them with the bleeder open. if they return with the bleeder open then your flex lines are damaged.
Also make sure there is no brake fluid leaking before you start.

I thought you were haveing brake trouble, as in that other thread you started on your brakes being weak... Im sure its all the same problem...
Did you fix your brakes yet??

Brake are fine. I guess I was just not used to my car after not driving it for 7 days....
The funny thing is, smells just started after I lowered the car...
Everything works and performs well, except this wierd smell...
And also, it starts only when car is being driven.... :fustrated:

Hmmm... rear brakes eh....?
Well the hand brake is all good. Just like before.... I do drive kindda competitive though... Especially now that the car handles sooooooooo well!!
Could something be under pressure or stress, being pushed or stressed, because of the car being lowered...?
This is wierd... This never happened last summer... or on any of the cars I lowered before.... I didn't touch the rear brakes when the car was on jacks... And I don't see any brake fluid of the floor of my garage... I did check the shoes though... They still had plenty left...
The car performs very well and just like before... I haven't noticed any changes in braking, performance or anything else.... Just this wierd, horrible candle smoke smell.... !!:fustrated:

The smell is still there... I think it comes from front wheels as well. Kindda like plastic bag burning smell and candle smoke smell... Could this be the new shocks somehow? Cause thats the only thing that has being changed... well besides lowering springs...
