Car cuts out while driving
My friend's 2000 civic coupe has started cutting out while driving. He has a b20vtec with a chipped p75 ecu w/chrome.
Now he experiences this 90% when taking a turn with a little spunk, he also went over a heavy bump on the highway and experienced the same thing. The car seems like the clutch is slipping but the RPMs drop completely and the radio dies (but strangely the dash lights stayed on). The car come back right after the RPMs drop. We tried to re-create the environment under which the problem occurs, so we took some turns and gave her moderate gas, and it did it again. Checked the grounds, no CELS, fuel filter has about 8k on it same with wire and spark plugs are even less. Car is maintained so oil level is perfect. We thought we MIGHT have heard a clicking on the left side of the dash but werent sure. Possibly the main relay? TIA |
I doubt its your main relay.... it sounds like its a short in the wiring. It might be a ***** to figure out where it is, also could be fairly pricy if you take it in.

same thing happened to me I had a problem witht he fuel pressure and timing combined with a problem with the o2 sensor and a whole whack of things after my management system went in.
Could also be a short as mentioned above, my buddies car died and fried because they didn't ground the electricals right |
for some reason the car is more inclined to do this when its making a left turn....hard to re-create when turing right.

so what happens when it dies? does it start back up again? does it not start for a period of time. if so for the period of time does it crank or no? spark?fuel?
more info. |

If turned off, then it will crank right up fine again. Almost like a ground comes loose and re-attaches....i checked all the grounds in the engine bay and they are securely fastened. From some reading...it seems like this problem could be a variety of things: ecu, ignitor, main relay, fuel delivery. I'm crossing fuel delivery out because the radio goes off with the engine. |

Possibly the main relay? but almost sounds like the problem, there not really a well made OEM part. You could take it out and resolder all the joints see if that helps. Originally posted by udugam He has a b20vtec with a chipped p75 ecu w/chrome. Is the ecu vtec converted? also how is his chip installed? socket soldered to bord then zif then chip, or no zif? If theres a zif socket take it out and try just using the chip with the soldered in socket. when i first chipped an ecu and tested it i had a zif in it and when i went to put the kick panel back on (car running) i really hit it to set it in place that knocked the zif out of the socket and the car died. |
Yea this guys are right...i have a 92 bubble back and i used to have to this exact problem before and i've experienced every single one of them...well anyway....if the car doesn't start in usual heat and cold temperature changes that could be your Main relay cuz the solder on this circuit expand and contracts if loose....and some of the other problems can be also the ground wire maybe all of them are rusted out in ur engine bay....and finally that could be your Distributor cuz i remember my car cutting out while driving cuz the distributor coil is burnt....so yea check those...

^^^ I'm dealing with the same type of problem. My car dies out while im Driving and I'm leaning towards the dizzy I thought it was fuel as well. Code 8 and 15 is what I'm trying to deal with on my EG.
