what are symptoms that you car is running rich?

what are the long term effects or damage caused by running rich, for lets say 1000km?

black smoke out of the tailpipe is running rich. i dont think it can cause any Real damage per say.. leaning out ya I could see damage occuring, but rich? just bogging, bad gas milage, and a lighter wallet.

running rich overtime can cause premature engine wear. Fuel contaminates the oil.

it takes extended periods of running really rich (like 10.5:1 and richer AFR) to do serious damage (wash the rings out).

Spark plug condition can tell if you generally if you are rich, black spark plugs indicate overly rich conditions.

well my tail pipe is black, my mom is pissed off cuz i left my car running for a few minutes on the driveway while i went inside the house and there is black sludge on our garage door, luckily it washed off....
i am getting 300km per tank of gas.... and when im putting 94 octane into my car i find that quite upsetting and yes my wallet feels light as hell...
and my car also does bog at the low rpms..

so i guess it is running rich...

When i changed my spark plugs last month, i noticed one of them was a bit black compared to the other 3. Do i need a timing done or should i do a compression test to all 4 cylinders 1st? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

may have a leaking injector in that cylinder

Fix the problem for good, instead of just putting a band-aid on the problem.

I wouldn't use 94 octane in your car unless its boosted.
We need to know more about your setup to be of any real help, like what car, what engine, how many kms on it, what ecu, is the ecu chipped, if so what program are you using?....things like that.

I'm surprised no one has said "its your o2 sensor"....lol.

maybe this will work on a 2-stroke, but nowadays with sophiscated ECM's there is no way retarding the timing can do any good.

i got a good idea lets poke a hole in the gas tank maybe that will stop the car from running rich.

question, so if the car is going through a tank too fast, that means it's running rich? would a tune-up do anything?
as in rotor, cap, plugs etc? air intake?

If it needs a tune-up, yes.

but just because one is going through a tank fast doesnt mean they are running rich. dont get it confused.
