Can't balance tire
so...this past winter I slid into a curb coming out of work. I damaged the front passenger tire. I ended up having to get the car (2003 Civic) towed to the dealership (I know...I know...). It ended up costing me $$$. The first inspection, according to the dealer, was "Passenger lower control arm bent and strut. possible rim damaged also", and then "Replaced right lower control arm and front struts, aligned wheels, centre steering wheel, checked steering components". Please note that the rim was NOT replaced.
They ended up moving the supposedly ok front tire to the rear passenger. I was driving back from the cottage a couple weeks ago and noticed that when I went past 140kmh I heard a strange whirring noise coming from the back of the car. I couldn't figure out what was causing it.
I just came back from getting a new set of Toyo's. The guy that was doing the install told me that the tire (yes, that tire) could not be balanced. He said that "it was moving around like a snake on the balance machine" and that I should get it replaced as soon as possible.
My question is, shouldn't the dealer have balanced the tire to make sure that the rim didn't have to be replaced? I have the alignment specs from the dealership. I just want to know if I have enough information to go back to them so that they can *maybe* replace the rim at no cost (not likely, but worth a shot).
Your thoughts?

ok...i might have been dreaming when i thought they would replace the rim...but shouldn't they have tested (i.e. balanced) the tire before moving it to the back of the car (where the wobble would be hard to detect)?

just go the steelcase tires and mags. buy a freakin' steelie and put your hub cap on it. Should only cost like $40 or $50 dollars for it.
btw, whatever you say, your not getting a new rim from the dealership. You hit the curb, so its your fault the rim was bent.
