Hey any of you tech guys could help me out with this, i am looking at some cam gears for the ZC motor i am swaping in, is it worth it with out changing the cam shafts. I am going to do a little bit of engine work like valve job and a little port and polish, besides that pistons and everthing else inside will be stock. What kind of hp gains would i be looking at here with the cam gears?? If i have a performance chip in the ecu will that help with the cam gears in hp gains ??:working:

There is no definite answer to the amount of gain you'll get from cam gears. If this is any consulation.. I gained 5hp on the dyno from playing around with the cam gears. I paid about $300 for the pair.. So. you have to ask yourself... $60/Hp... Is it worth it? For me YES, but not for everyone.

As for ZC.. I don't believe there are any available. The B series ones will work, but it's not 100% perfect fit.

juss adding aftermarket cam gears will increase hp slightly. about a 3 whp gain. this is cuz they are lighter than stock cam gears. But...the real advantage in cam gears is the capability of tuning ur engine. If u have mad bolt ons and maybe some type r cams, u will see some wickad results! about 10 whp! thats, of course with a good tuner! but every engine, and its mods are different, so like ks-r said, there is no definate answer. my advice, if u want to go with mad bolt ons, go with some cam gears. it opens more doors in the future (if ur spending money over time).

about the performance chip....its worthless. so i hear. its cuz the performance chip changes ur fuel map, and other stuff, to create more hp. it might work well on a stock engine, but how can it work well on every engine if each engine has different mods done to it? every engine is different. but when u do mods to an engine and then buy an aftermarket performance chip, it wont improve ur hp as much as a custom ecu chip. a custom chip will improve ur hp way more than an aftermarket chip. if u wanna get a chip, then go with a custom chip.

some advice on buying cam gears, the more bolts the better. u see aem with 3 and jg cam gears with 6 bolts. well the more bolts means less slippage. JG cam gears are roughly around $600 for the pair....but i bought mine used for $150 for the pair! ....aem cam gears are cheap i think around $300...thats what i have on my car rite now, but u can find them used for $150 if money is an issue.

Where do i go about finding a shop that does custom chips like this ??Those aem cam gears i found for about 300$ brand new like you said, i think their the same ones that come off for the 90-91 Integra DOHC and del sol dohc, i will try and wait to see if anybody has used ones for for sale in classifieds. I still got lots of time it's not like i'm going to use all this power in the winter anyway, the only thing i will be using in the winter time is my hand brake on every turn yeah haaaaaaa!!!!!!!

how much does a pair of AEM cam gear for SIR go for??? Without tuning the cam does it work just like the stock and will it kill my gas. I just want the cam gear for the look.

dx sleeper: i think almost all dyno shops that can tune ur engine can also tune ur chip. but 1 place i know for sure is yoshio....some really really really good tuner. i juss read his site and he could make a custom chip...but since he's one of the best, he's also gonna be very expensive. i know theres 2 dyno shops (probably more) in Toronto. one in scarborough and one in woodbridge...both are good. one is called dpe...and the other dpr or something...not really sure. but u can ask around, i know ppl on these boards know of these two shops.

JDMsir99: ok if u want cam gears for looks, then ur gonna have to do some cutting (then again, if u were gonna do some tuning, u were gonna have to do cutting too!) ...so juss keep that in mind.
like i told dx sleeper, used cam gears go for around $150 and new for $300....this doesnt matter on what type of engine u have. most of the prices will be in that range. juss take ur time and look around. to be honest, i dont have **** loads of money coming outta my ***, so till this day i have bought all my mods off the net...or through newspapers.....USED! the only thing i bought new was a short shifter. everything else : used.
Aftermarket cam gears are lighter, so no they wont kill ur gas milage...they will probably improve it cuz they are lighter

but if u wanna get better performance and gas milage, buy a vtec controller like i did. u can control when u need extra horsepower or when u wanna conserve gas and get 40 mpg....u should look into it....good investment.
