Calling DR. Civic

question..i just got my 7th civic HB 95. that iam thinking to keep for few yrs. I wonna boost the engine like increase some HP what wud be a good way to start, some tell me get new heads and cams some tell me get new chip. Iam running sohc zc vtec. Help people

bbarbulo 16-Jan-2007 05:57 PM

what is your budget?

new chip is a waste at this point. how much hp are you looking to make?

SOHC do their best with turbo.

Shaza 16-Jan-2007 07:10 PM

looking for 180-200hp 1000$budget...

chris_si98 16-Jan-2007 07:16 PM

No offense but there is no ****ing way you're going to get 200hp with 1000$. Minimum would be $2500 and that would be with a sidejob install, street tune, used low quality turbo parts, etc.

Sounds to me like you need to search some of your questions. Or save up some cash

Shaza 16-Jan-2007 07:19 PM

ok then some kinda boost maybe 165

zeeman 16-Jan-2007 07:28 PM

with $1000 your pretty limited.
Intake/header/exhaust would be pushing it on a $1000 budget and you're not really gunna get too much extra power with i/h/e

the only boost you'll be getting with 1000$ is a rental car. Sorry. force induction is not cheap.

bbarbulo 16-Jan-2007 07:44 PM

thousand bucks, you're not getting 165 hp, no way no how.

see, anyone who builds a car properly would know that the first thousand bux after a used car purchase would be spent on basic maintenance... freshen up the chassis, replace the timing belt, water pump, etc... any maintenance that is suspected not to have been done.

then you go from there.

in your case... wet nitrous might be your only option.

I would save up a little if I were you, and then take it from there. Don't be in such a rush to mod your car that you dont end up doing it proper. While you are saving up, research your options. See what will work best for you and set some goals.

Right now, with your budget, you could get I/H/E. It's a good start, but its no 200hp magic combo.

One thing I would consider spending the $1000 on right away though is some solid suspension. Though it wont add horsepower, handling ability is very important to the overall picture.

Shaza 16-Jan-2007 09:30 PM

Thanks everyone for putting your help into it, but i already got my car servied got new timming belt engine got recommpressed i got brand new exhust system cat back got aem intakes. got a dc header lowered on not sure what. So now all that is done what sud be my next step?

zeeman 16-Jan-2007 09:32 PM

i'd say nitrous oxide, that would be the best bang for buck and the only way you'll get anywhere near your power goal on your budget.
Either that or spend it on a nice suspension setup.

Shaza 16-Jan-2007 09:34 PM

How about a ecu chip, can that help abit, iam running 145 hp currnently, and NOZ isnt that illegal?

imported_dr.drew1987 16-Jan-2007 09:44 PM

145hp? definatly get a decent nitrous kit. i was running like 108hp and my dry kit got me up to 130whp. you would be satesfied i guarantee it.

zeeman 16-Jan-2007 09:45 PM

nitrous oxide isn't illegal.

An ecu chip won't do crap, as those generic chips just dump way too much fuel and advance the timing a whole bunch, which isn't a good thing. They're designed to work with a specific engine setup, even if you have that exact same setup that program won't be the best for your car b/c every engine is different and requires different fuel/ignition values to run the best and make the most power.
Now a custom made program would be your best bet, but worth it? Its debateable. How much WHP will you gain? Prolly a minimal amount since you're only dealing with a SOHC VTEC.

Shaza 16-Jan-2007 09:59 PM

what kind of noz would be best for my engine, and where can i go to get this set up done. How much will that cost?

chris_si98 16-Jan-2007 10:58 PM

Personally before you boost your motor.. go to canadian tire or napa/uap and get compression in a can. It restores your cylinder compression. It's a great buy.. i think it's something like 14.99

imported_dr.drew1987 17-Jan-2007 01:06 AM

zex nitrous oxide, 500 bucks for a dry kit approx.

boobz 18-Jan-2007 05:00 AM

nos on ur stock motor aint going to last for long. imo.
you should go with your initial plan, and piece together a junkyard turbo kit.
you should check out homemadeturbo, most of the poster on there are working with a tight budget too. guys have built 600 kits. 145-160 or watever isnt to far fetch of a horse power goal. just do some research and get a good tune.
good luck

zeeman 18-Jan-2007 12:32 PM

n20 isn't any harder on an engine than boost.
If n20 isn't going to make his engine last long, why would you say that a ghetto ass turbo kit would?

Its all in the tuning, both for n20 and boost. But with n20 it'll be way cheaper and prolly give about the same results as a ghetto turbo kit on 5-7psi.
I'd recommend getting a WET kit though.

VTEC_Thunder 18-Jan-2007 01:02 PM

....I hate nos....

Why would you ever want a power adder that you have to have to "refill"? LOL....

I'd stick with NA tuning or F/I (turbo or SC)...imo.

For your ZC: new cam, injectors, intake mani, ecu tuning, header, high-flow cat, cat-back...... that will get you a nice gain.

If you want BIG power (up near 200+) go forced induction.
