My 99 coupe came with an AEM CAI. the filter element is destroyed from all the crap that has been flying into it, and i was wondering if any of you guys thought of building an "airbox" around the filter element. it would prevent **** from flying into it, water etc. just a little shield that could be riveted around it...

let me know if any of you guys have tried it

i've thought about it... i have a 5th gen and i cut out the passenger side front vent thing that usually only has two holes but i've had my one filter in the bumper there for like 6 months now and its still fine... a little dirty maybe though...

the ricer that had the car before me destroyed teh filter.. i dont think its even usable.. do you know where i can get a replacement? its just a cone filter for a 2.5 inch intake

K&N makes 2.5" replacements..
little costly but they're worth the money..
i just swapped mine out friday

If its an AEM doesnt it come with a K&N? mine did and i thought they are goodf for a million miles or something, as long as you wash it

i dont think hes talking about dirty...it is destroyed by debris

yeah, dirt is no problem.. it has rocks and other crap in it, thats what i;m worried about

definitely need to replace it in that case but as everyone has recommended, go w/ K&N filter, pick up cleaning kit while your at it and just clean it every now and then u think its dirty.
