CAI questions, for mix and match civic

I have a 90 Hatch, with a 93 Si engine [or so im told].

I want to get CAI, just basic, no-name..i got quoted 65 bucks at pac mall for CAI for a "92-95 civic"... now is this what ill need...i know the cai goes by the engine not the car...but should i be getting intake for a 92-95 SI, or just a generic one..and will i notice perf. difference between the two [if two such seperate things exist in low quality cai]

also...will a filter with a heatshield be better, or worse then plain one, i mean the heatshield that is just kinda wrapped around the filter, not the kind where its boxed off in a corner of the car, im talking bout on a short air one. will it help prevent hydralock or improve perf? i dont know a lot about this stuff..dont be mean

I believe you will still need an intake for the EF.

really? but didnt i get a new Fuel injection thingy, with the new engine? im not sure... i would think, if all the engine is diff [the tranny is still EF] that the intake would be dictated by what engine i have, sinc my engine NOW is more powerful then the stock one

also, how hard is it to install my own intake, does anyone have site links to how-to's for 4th/5th gens....or would help me out with their own advice?

i need to know what intake to buy..yeah..so for a 4th or 5th? body is 1990 Civic DX, engine is 1993 Civic Si..hrmm HELP

you would need the 4th gen intake still if you getting a cai.... on the other hand if your just getting a short ram you could get by with either one.... the 93 Si motor will bolt up to your stock tranny too... all the d series is interchangeable

engine

Fuel injection

ID number

pics of my engine, what engine do i have, and what CAI would you advice? i know the more powerful the engine, the larger the diamter of the pipe is..so could a Si engine utilize a bigger pipe, or is it an insignificant diff?

im looking at just a short pipe basic one...would a heat shield do any good, one that fits on the cone?

punk: yes i have my stock tranny, for sure..

should i be able to install this myself?

well you definately do not have a 93 Si engine... cause the plugs on those are closer to the front

to tell for sure look at this pic and this is where the info is

in the photo, where im told to look is where that close up the code is located...somehow..that is the engine code

is it possible to have the old fuel injection system with a diff engine? anyways...im gona ask my mech some more details..cause this is confusing, and i know him, hes not lying, he just likely got something mixed up, all i know is this engine was in a 93 cx before mine

whoa kids....

Slim K, would it be possible rather than a swap, that you got a 93 SHORT block???

You need an intake for a EF for SURE!!! Your engine is NOT more powerful than it was... well, maybe by a little wee bit.

The code, no matter what, is south of the head, west of the header in a machined spot on the block.

ok..short block eh..i dont know, all i know is the "Engine" was brought in for a 93 cx, then that car was rolled months later, then its dropped into mine as it was in the 93...so take what you will from that.

and yeah, that pic of the id is..where your location says it should be

so for intake..i know the 92-95 is cheaper...will it still fit and work as good or almost as good?
