a/c removal

i did a search for this bu tonly found ricks old post about removing his a/c, so i was just wondering if its more complicated on my car 99si and how involved is it, maybe someone has a map layout of the underhood that could show me the way

i never use my a/c i'm all about the natural air, so if its not in use it can go and the weight can go to.

and the compressor is under the dash? is that right?

the compressor is run by the belt. The evaporator is under the dash, and the condensor is at the front of the car. You have r134A refrigerant. It is supposed to be recovered by an a/c shop, but it is harmless to the environment. I took mine out last year. The comp. and cond. are pretty heavy considering there size. I left the evap. for now, till I change the dash.If you decide to release the refrig. (which you shouldn't do!), do yourself a favour and wear safety glasses and gloves.

well isn't there a way to lock the ref. inside of the condenser, like i'm used to working on house air conditioners and you can lock the ref. in them just was hoping it was the same, cause not refrigerent is harmless to the environment

It's very easy to remove, and no you can't lock in the refrigerant. You're supposed to recover it. The refrig. is alot different in cars than in your fridge.

well i unexpectadly got the day off from work so i thought today would be a good day to pull my a/c out, and right now i'm about half way through it and its going good, i pulled off the bottom splash gaurd and that helped out alot.
now the next question is what to do about the big giant hole where the old a/c coil was, i think non a/c cars have some kind of plastic block plate or something so that the air just doesn't travel past my rad.
is this true or do i have to make something for it or do i have to keep the old a/c coil in there, which i don't want to do.

no, just make an aluminium or plastic shield that will block airflow and force air through your engine rad. you can ziptie it in place.

so since your car doesn't have a/c whats in its place right now?

and i have everything from under the hood out all the lines and everything right up to the firewall, and i'm going at it under the dash, but it aint going very smoothly, theres seems to be one bolt right at teh top of everything that i can't get, its almost impossible unless i remove more things, like the air bag, which i don't want to touch.

does anyone know anything about this?

it has a plastic cover there now

as for the one bolt holding it in, I've noticed you can get at the nut from the firewall side in some cases, by the prop valve (at least that's where it was when we stripped this del Sol). not sure about the 6th gens, sorry
