A/C Problem in a 1994 Civic

One of my colleagues here at work drives a 94 civic which has around 110K on it. She recently complained of a foul/burning smell coming out of A/C plus there was sound coming out of it as well (sort of a tick tick sound). A couple of days ago..she noticed that the there is no cold air coming out of the system...it was still blowing air though.

The car was taken to Mississagua Honda today and they diagnosed the following parts to be not working properly:

1. A/C Cluth + Coil
2. Thermo Switch
3. Compressor (This was a MAYBE)

The service guy said the termostat seems to be ok.

She has already paid $300 is diagnosis fee so far and cost of all the parts above plus labor was quoted at $1195 before taxes. Plus...if the compressor is fried, that would be another $1166 for the part before installation. This all sums up to be more than the value of this car..haha

So i would like your suggestions what should be done here....i have been thiking of the following options:

1. Buy parts new from Parkway Honda and have them installed at an affiliate
2. Buy these parts used off the classifieds and have them installed at an affiliate

I am assuming at this stage that the diagnosis is correct and the compressor is still OK....and will not need replacing.

Any suggestions guys?

take it from the rapist dealer and get it fixed elsewhere where its not 110bucks an hour

a reman compressor is less than half the dealer charges for theirs...not to mention it would come with the clutch and coil...bun the dealer!!!!!!!!

1200 for a compressor and install? ****.. i just did one on a ford and the bill came to like $500 I think which including diagnosis.

Take it to a smaller shop that is well known.
